Here is a problem i'm looking into and hopfully people with a better knowledge of God's word will be able to tell me one way or the other


1.Did God ever advance man?

Specifically, Did God introduce housing, writing, machinery, any kind of invention.



2.Did God give man the ability and knowledge to do it himself.

If you answered yes to the second question do you personally believe that we are to blame for everything that is befalling us, Because of how we have treated the planet? (examples: pleagues, global warming ext.)

If you answered yes to question one please provide the scriptures so I might learn and find out this for myself.


I didn't want to do this as a poll because as i'm intrested in the answers i'm also intrested in the reasoning for them . I realize this might open up a huge topic for debate and i'm ready to learn and understand

Without God’s mercy and grace we are “dead men walking”. So the question, ”Did God ever advance man?” has to be answered, emphatically YES!
A great part of our salvation experience is the acknowledgement that we are helpless without God. We are in need of God’s protection, His salvation, and His abundant grace.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

His lovingkindness, mercy and grace are provided richly to His chosen.

But I’m not sure that answers the intent of your question. It is my opinion that God is intimately involved in the affairs of man.
I think there are plenty of examples of how God used various people in working out his plans.

Joseph is a prime example, read about him in Genesis 37-50. His statement to his brothers answers your question best:

"I am your brother Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For famine has been in the land these two years and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to keep you alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. (Genesis 45:4-9ff)

And when Joseph’s brothers doubted, Joseph said, Do not fear for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me but God meant it for good to bring it about that many people should be kept alive as they are today.” (Genesis 50:19f)

God knew what would happen and arranged people and events to suit His purpose.

Deacon thank you for your help and your right, i'm looking for something else. But, your answers are perfect in my persuit for wisdom. What I would like to know is if God gave human any kind of advancement. Did God teach people to write, to sew, machinery things of that nature. Or did God give us the brains to think and figure it out after a while?

And i'm a philosophy student but, i'm also a saved woman.

Well, the closest I can come to an answer you are looking for is found in Exodus 31:2-6

“See, I have called by name Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship. And behold, I Myself have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and in the hearts of all who are skillful I have put skill, that they may make all that I have commanded you"

Israel was not the greatest nation on the earth, they were not the most skilled or talented nation, yet they were the nation God chose, ...and He blessed them with what they needed to glorify Him best.

All good things come from God. We need to realize that every skill, every talent, every discovery or advancement is a gift or blessing from God (whether we think we were the first to know about it or not-God already knew)

Hence my conflict Deacon.. God's grace and mercy are all that we as chistian's give him credit for. Should we not give him credit for more. Rather than giving it to man. Shouldn't the adventors who truely thought thier inventions came from the Holy, Said so? Or is that the arrogance of man? I'm sorry to keep going with this i'm just really curious

Isn't advancement all part of God's plan? I believe that a certain few were given the ability to put things together for advancement, and that all of mankind takes advantage of the advancement. It falls into the wrong hands and sins abounds. we are all given choice, but very few use the advancements for His good. But, I don't believe that what is happening to us is because of how we treat the planet. Many of the assumptions given out today are false assumptions, like global warming, over-population, and such. These are concepts given to make things look worse for people worshiping the creature, not the creator. Plagues have been here for a long time, but never have wiped out the existence of man.

See Olive you've hit on something. God gave man the capacity to do good or evil. It is our choice. Those who would do good are hardly ever recoginzed as much as someone who wants to do evil.

Jam 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Advancement comes from God. God has granted man the ability to think and reason, and therefore to advance. Even when this advancement is used for evil (Nazi medical experimentation of Jews, for instance), God will redeem it (much of today's medical knowledge came from those experiments).

This statement is patently false! Those where invariably sadistic "experiments" that had nothing to do with science or knowledge. The idea that there was some redeming value in them is bunk.
