.094, that's pretty small. Where did you come by the 258 pellet count Bro James? Nearest I could find was a .410 with with a count of approx 400 for a 3/4 oz load of 7 1/2 shot and .410 is smaller than 28 gauge. I don't own a 28 gauge BTW. I'm just a poor glazier afterall. Even with an estimated 30 inch pattern which I find kind of hard to believe after shooting 12's, 20's, and .410's that produced larger patterns at thirty yards and that with number 6 shot maybe 30 inches with #4 but not #6 or #7 1/2. Maybe that's why I find trapping easier than hunting to bring home the meat. I own lousy guns. Browning (12 ga), Ithaca and Browning (20 ga's) and Mossberg and Revelation (.410 ga's). :D

    The rest of the story?

18 hours? I've heard up to 22 hours, but can't find the article at the moment. And it sounds as if the Sherrifs dept wasn't allowed to question Cheney until the following morning??? If that were you or I, I suspect we'd have broken out in braclets (hand cuffs) on the spot and been taken downtown for questioning breath tests and or blood and DNA samples. Must be nice.

    Isn't that obstruction?

Don't know if its obstruction of justice or not...but I wouldn't recommend anyone else leaving the scene of a shooting and not talking to law enforcement for 12 hours.

Most of the ballistic data came from: Shotgun World.com.

Yes the rest of the story--from Mr.Cheney.

I keep a Rem. 870 with a rifled deer barrel--loaded with rifled slugs(for large rats)--unless it is goose season--then it is a 30 inch barrel with T-shot--also effective on rodents.

Thanks Bro James. I just looked up chilled shot data in my Reloading Guide For Shotgunners 2nd edition. You are correct. 3/4 oz of # 7 1/2 is listed at 259. Where did I come up with 400?

Also looking over the "Purposful Patterning" chapter I see that the thirty inch circle is used for measuring efficiency by counting the hits inside the circle and dividing by the number of shot in an unfired load. The pattern itself is larger than the circle. Guess maybe my guns are okay then. Whew. Had me worried for a minute. :D

Deer slugs for rats? How big do the rats get in you're neck of the woods? We use pellet rifles and slingshots for them critters around here. :D

Media overlook unanswered questions and inconsistencies in Cheney shooting disclosure

Summary: Media reporting on the delay between when Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot one of his hunting partners and the public disclosure of that information have overlooked unanswered questions and inconsistent accounts of how the incident was revealed to the press.

In recent days, media reporting on the delay between when Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot one of his hunting partners and the public disclosure of that information have overlooked unanswered questions and inconsistent accounts of how the incident was revealed to the press. Many media outlets have uncritically repeated the White House claim that the Vice President's Office was solely responsible for the delayed announcement of the accident, without noting that White House senior adviser Karl Rove discussed the accident with his longtime friend Katharine Armstrong, the host of the hunting expedition, the night before she disclosed it to a Corpus Christi, Texas, newspaper. Other media reported that Armstrong said she conferred with Cheney before disclosing the story but failed to note that this account conflicts with initial reports that Armstrong said Cheney was not aware that she was going to contact the local media.

    * Media overlooked Armstrong's conflicting accounts of whether she coordinated with Cheney

    <snip>

    * Media ignored Rove's involvement while reporting that Vice President's Office was solely responsible for delayed disclosure

Several outlets reported that White House officials acknowledged that Rove, widely seen as the Bush administration's public relations and political guru, discussed Cheney's hunting accident with Armstrong the night before Armstrong told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times about it. For example, The New York Times reported on February 14 that Rove "called Ms. Armstrong to ask about the incident," while The Washington Post reported the same day that Rove was "told of the shooting Saturday night but deferred to Cheney on providing information to the public, White House aides said."

    Media Matters

If this is true, then it would explain my dizzy spell. The chief spinmeister himself was involved. :D

    Talk to y'all later. [IMG]

Some "rats" have two legs and walk upright. Sometimes they will desist with a volley over the head, sometimes not. Usually a "lock and load" is a successful deterrent. I have had to turn away a would be attacker only once in my 60 years, but I still keep my musket loaded--just in case.

A wise choice Bro James. I keep my Kel-Tec Sub 2000 rifle stoked full of Corbon 115 grain hollowponts for those two legged rats myself.

It's lighter with alot less recoil than my 12 gauge Browning Auto 5 and it packs in my travel bag better when I'm living in motels as I often do. ;)

I hope he recovers also, and I do believe this was just an unfortunate accident. They happen. Every year there is some unlucky deer hunter shot around here. I've had some close calls myself while out hunting the whitetail. Alot of them "city hunters" migrate here come deer season. You know the type...the only practice they get is checking the zero on their 500 dollar scopes once a year. ;)

I'm reading that there was drinking earlier that afternoon.

That alone could explain the reason for the delay in notifying law enforcement.

    Of course you are.

You're probably also reading he shot him on purpose as a political distraction.

You may even have heard Cheney's friend agreed to let himself be shot as a loyal Cheney supporter should.

No telling what other nonsense will be floated or already has been.

Isn't spreading a rumor sort of like spreading gossip? ;)

Good footwork Galation may be a key element of why Karl Rove was directly involved.

You need a long period of time to let the Alcohol lever subside...drinking flasks and hunting is sometimes common albeit not with Christian hunters...I hope.

(Barbarian mentions that it has been said drinking was involved)

You've got a really active imagination, carpro.

    Yep. Great imagination.

Turns out, the rumors were right. Cheney has now admitted it.

Cheney also acknowledged drinking "a beer" with a barbecue lunch on the day of the accident, which occurred at about 5:30 p.m. "Nobody was under the influence," Cheney said.

Of course not. Good thing he drank just one beer. [IMG]

News stories don't qualify as gossip. I don't care how well you think you can hold your liquor, you don't drink when you're hunting.

BTW, it turns out that Cheney was also hunting illegally. Fortunately, it appears that the State of Texas isn't going to fine him, since he sent in the $7 fee for a bird stamp after he was caught. Hey, he said he was sorry. Well, actually, he didn't but I'm sure he was.

The media wrongly have sought "a metaphor" for White House secretiveness in the hunting episode, she said, suggesting that the more important issue remains Cheney's violation of the basic rule that a hunter verify the target and what is beyond it before pulling the trigger, as well as his lack of a $7 upland bird stamp on his Texas hunting license. Cheney, who paid $125 for the basic license, sent the state $7 this week.

These guys figure the rules don't apply to them.

    How incredibly unfortunate… :(
Praying for Mr. Whittington and a speedy recovery. Praying for Vice President Cheney as he deals with the emotions of accidentally shooting a friend.

What a hideous thing to say… shame on you JohnV!

I thought your own words (one minor change) would be appropriate in this case…

A lot of radical left wingnut liberals are openly hoping for his death. </font>[/QUOTE]Is this an accurate statement, or just more Carpro rambling? Please quote one leading democrat that hopes Mr. Whittington dies.

I know that this is one democrat that hopes that Mr. Whittington makes a full recovery. I would feel the same way if it was a used car salesman who was shot, Carpro.

Somebody was asking for statistics on hunting accidents. According to the IHEA, in 1998 (US and Canada).....

    Fatal Casualties 93
    Non-fatal Casualties 894
    All Casualties 987

Also according to IHEA, "Most of the two-party casualties involve hunters swinging on upland game with shotguns, covering their hunting partners or not seeing their partners. These are vision related casualties..."

As to when local authorities were notified of the accident,

"A medical team accompanying the vice president administered first aid to Whittington when the accident happened at 5:50 p.m., Secret Service spokesman Tom Mazur said. The Secret Service told sheriff's deputies about the accident an hour later, after Whittington was headed for a hospital in Kingsville and the hunting party had returned to the ranch house, he said."

    CNN

(Also according to IHEA, treestand falls account for nearly as many injuries as accidental shooting.)

Brother, you aren't even close to being as radical left as most of those wackos. In fact, you may be a Republican by their standards.

And yes, some of them were openly hoping for his death.

Some questions I've been wondering about.

What medications if any do folks with heart conditions like the VP's normally take?

What side effects could be expected from taking these medications?

What would be the expected effects of mixing these medications with alcohol?

Oh, c'mon, lighten up. It was an obvious joke. Lawyer jokes are always enjoyable. I used to work for a law office, and the attorneys there had the funniest lawyer jokes.
