Got up at 5 AM to go to the church to help fix breakfast for the evacuees. The road in front of our house had become a four lane parking lot and there was no way I could even get out of my drive. (We live a block from the freeway and across the street from a new motel.)
Well, the old saying is "bloom where you are planted" so.. I started coffee, went out and started asking people in their cars if they wanted coffee or needed to use the bathroom. DID I GET TAKERS!!!!
Two hours later they were still coming and going, and the cars were still blocking the way.
There is NO GAS in Huntsville, NO ICE, and lots and lots of people, some elderly some with babies, and small children. I took a trash can out to the street and they started picking up the trash they had thrown down and putting it in the trash can! (It was a MESS!) I fixed ice water and paper cups and put it out on a TV tray as well as putting a water hose, paper towels, and liquid hand soap so they could clean up a little.
Laughed as one couple bathed a nude little boy, probably 9 months old, while others brushed their teeth in the front yard.
Finally around 10 AM they moved out. The police and others found places for them to go. However, there were two couples, our age, sitting across the street in the motel parking lot. One lady using a walker to get around. Anyway, they are now here in the house with us and will stay here through the storm, as they cannot get gas to continue to their planned destination about 60 miles north of here.
The hurricane has been so wishy-washy, but no one is taking any chances. There is a distinct possiblity of tornados spawning here and/or high winds.
Our hearts are grieved for those poor souls who died in the burning bus in Wilmer...evacuees from a nursing facility in Bellaire.
Everybody stay safe, and thanks for the prayers. God is good and I'm glad I know He is in control. I'll be the first to admit that I don't understands the "whys" and "wherefores", (and don't always like what they are) but am content to leave it in His capable hands.
