Hello to all! I am new to the board and I just couldn't resist this topic. I am a Board Certified Christian Hypnotherapist. IMHO there is a place for hypnosis in our christian lives. God created us so devinely that I firmly believe He wants us to utilize all of the brain power He gave us. I understand, how many people are scared of the idea of hypnosis and it is not a good form of therapy for different individuals. It is vitally important to me as a professional, and a Christian. I feel very comfortable with hypnosis. I expect my clients to be comfortable with hypnosis but more importantly with me as their caregiver. If I feel that a client is unsure about their desire to use hypnosis in their life, or if I sense they are not totally comfortable with me, I will not work with them. I have found that a shared love and resprect for our Lord Jesus Christ is a wonderful cement in my relationships with my clients! As I said hypnosis is not for all of us and I have always respected those who feel differently then I do about it. I however, Thank God everyday for the amazing brain that He has given us. I hope in my lifetime to help others learn to appreciate and better understand the power of our Lord and the amazing organ of the brain He has blessed us with.
    God Bless You,
    jkccht

Thank you Charlotte, There really isn't a large number of "Christian" Hynotherapists. I think it is due to the fact that hypnosis can be a very scary thing to those who do not understand it or were never given any real information regarding it's use within the Christian lifestyle. I know I have a long road to travel, as there are many of my fellow belivers who are under the impression that hypnosis is somehow linked to the devil. Unfortunately, this is largely due in part to stage show hypnotists and magic tricks they perform with their crowds. I also know that while this road I have chosen to travel is sometimes very challenging, with the Lord by my side I will make the best decisions I possible can. In the process I hope to help show others how truly awesome our God is, and how perfect He designed our brains to not just help others, but help ourselves and serve Him!

Under hypnosis, the therapist cannot make you violate your own belief system. On memory recall, it is the therapist who makes the notes about what is said. The client is induced into a relaxed state which assists the memory to work, and the client to relate tough experiences in the past. The false memory, so-called, is exactly that.

The primary danger of hypnosis is when the client has a deep psychotic state embedded in their memory. this can leave them in a long-term psychotic state and some have even gone into a comatose state.

It should never be used without a medical examination beforehand.

It is NOT mindcontrol anymore than anything used to help one to relax. I would never use it, but I had a colleague who used it as part of his pastoral counselling way back in the fifties. Never heard any bad reports, but many successes.

Cheers, and blessings on those who use ALL means to reach some and bring peace into their lives.

Jim. If you refer to peace with God you are in grave error as to your last benediction. Regarding peace with Almighty God there is only one means - the Lord Jesus Christ. All other means are worthless and deceptive, hypnosis included.

I believe Jim was trying to say that we all know in our own varying and private ways the way to personal peace. (please correct me if I am wrong Jim [IMG] )IMHO hypnosis is a God given tool for us to find quiet and inner peace within ourselves to help aid us in whatever we choose. Peace with God through hypnosis is not possible, the only way to our salvation is, conciously accepting Jesus into our hearts. Under hypnosis as Jim pointed out a therapist cannot make you violate your own system of beliefs. False memories are are false! That is why I strongly enourage my clients to only work with me if they trust me. Hypnosis will not work if my client is not working with me and is trusting of me. As a professional I would take a VERY long time interviewing potential Hypnotherapists and spend a great deal of time getting to personally know the one I chose. Trust is essential! Also I would like to comment regarding the danger of hypnosis. I agree with Jim! I would never recommend anyone undergoing hypnosis without counsulting a trained and certified hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapists are specially trained to seek out possible problems for clients while undergoing hypnosis. We use a special examination with our potential clients to determine if hypnosis will be a safe and effective method of care for them. There are a few clients that despite their desire to work with hypnosis I will have to turn away due to possible medical complications.
Thanks for your insight Jim! I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Harald, There are some assumptions we make on a BaptistBoard during a discussion. Indeed, there is only ONE way to God and that perfect peace which He gives and He gives redeeming grace.

There is also a secular, psychological "peace" of mind that all peoples share as part of the human psyche. There are people who know peace without knowing the Saviour. If this were not so, preaching the gospel would be so simple.....then the Lord offers that "peace that passes all understanding." The fact that scripture defines this peace is indicative of that other peace.

    Cheers,

    Jim
