Forgotten the name of Pike's church. (Thanks, Squire) He was fired for an affair with the church secretary and not for heresy. He was also a lawyer and the Episcopal Church did not think that they could prevail in a heresy trial against him.

One has to be able to define a heresy before being able to prevail against it.

I’ve seen this kind of thing before.

I don’t want to sound like a braggart but most people who don’t play music professionally have no idea if the power it possesses. It can be downright scary sometimes what music does to people.

The KJV uses the word “cunning” to describe David’s harp playing.

Music pierces convictions.

Re the bolded, I have heard "praise" music that churned feelings in me that were ANYTHING but praise.
To me, this stuff should be reserved for hell, not a worship of God; but then that's just me - if you like it fine, as long as I don't have to endure it!
Yes I also agree that music can soothe the savage beast, as it has a tremendous calming effect on me if it's the right genre'.

I think that while we can be critical over the content (as in the subject of the OP) perhaps we also need to take care not to be overly critical over more subjective aspects of how other people worship. Sometimes we have to be content to simply say "that's not my thing" without condemning the worship experience of those for whom that is their thing (their culture, expressive of their personality, etc.).

Are you syncretistic?

To clarify my earlier post:

What I am saying is that the worship of the early church was just as much worship even though what we know of their worship was vastly different from a typical Baptist service.

I do not like guitars in worship. But I refuse to allow my preference to be the driving factor in worship. Not only that, I believe I should not condemn others who worship with such instruments. I'm not very fond of organ music in worship either (reminds me of Phantom of the Opera). I love the piano. But worship is not about me or my preferences. It is about God.

So, while the content of the service described in the OP (the video) is to be condemned I find it problematic to condemn styles of worship because they are contrary to one's preference, expectation, or definitions of music genres.

Applies to post #22.

The video of the OP can be viewed in terms of content and music style. Can secular music also be worship music? Is it the music or the individual that constitutes worship? Etc.

The post is not off topic.
