When we were young, there was absolutely no insolence of any kind or we'd be taken before the "board of education" post haste, so we were extremely selective in our back talk. (as in, never) and we learned far more than the best public schools teach today.

My dad loved being a teacher and administrator, until all tools of discipline were summarily dismissed, little by little. He took early retirement to "get away". I bet that is the biggest evil instituted against the education of American children.
