The USA has 3,119,885 square miles
The population of the world is about 8 billion
That means that if the worlds population was in the USA -
That would be density of 2,564 people per/ sq mile
The density of NY City is 29,302.7 people per sq mile

The density of my upstate rural county (w/ 1 small city) is 112 /sq mile.

Bottom line:
Some cities are over populated, but the world as a whole is not over populated.
