Lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan here, but no more. An alignment of events and recent knowledge has soured me to the team and to the NFL in general. I no longer rush home from church on Sunday afternoons to catch the ending of the first quarter of the game and then the rest of the game. I don't watch Sunday night football, Monday night football, or Thursday night football. I haven't had the NFL Network on my TV for over nine months. What caused this?
1. Adrian Peterson whipping his four year old boy bloody. This occurred about a year ago. Adrian Beat-Your-Son, the face of the Vikings was arrested for child abuse for whipping his four year old with a tree branch until his genitals bled. He was suspended (with pay!) for the rest of the season by the NFL (the Vikings would have played him), The Vikings "punishment" was to renegotiate his contract and give him a contract extension for two more years and increasing his guaranteed money by $6 million. This man has an estimated 8 children by 5 different women. One of his children was murdered and Beat-Your-Son only found out he was the father after the child's death. It's been reported that when he was engaged to be married he was involved in s@xual orgies with multiple women that were not his fiancee.
2. The arrest rate in the NFL is ridiculous. Think of Ray Rice, Michael Vick, Pacman Jones, Ray Lewis, Aaron Hernandez, etc. etc. Astonishingly, here is a headline from last week:

BTW, the Vikings lead the league in arrests no matter what time frame you choose as endpoints. Does anybody remember the "Love Boat" incident from 10 years ago (today, in fact). This involved 17 Vikings players that imported several hookers from Georgia to join them on a boat cruise around Lake Minnetonka, one of the larger lakes in the Twin Cities metro area.

3. The Vikings owner, Zygi Wilf, bilked the citizens of Minnesota out of $500 million in taxes to pay for the new Vikings stadium. The Vikings themselves are supposed to contribute $477 million, but their "contribution" will be zero net dollars because they will get the money from Personal Seat Licenses, stadium naming rights, loans from NFL corporate that are paid back with royalties on NFL licensed product merchandise. The end result is that no money will actually come out of the pocket of Zygi Wilf.A couple of years ago WIlf was convicted of defrauding his real estate business partners out of more than $20 million and was ordered to pay $84 million in damages. Of course, he is appealing the ruling.
4. The Vikings coach, Mike Zimmer, is a foul-mouthed bombastic @ss. He was "featured" on HBO's Hard Knocks when he was with the Bengals and every other word out of mouth was a curse word.
5. The NFL has been covering up the fact that many, many former players are developing brain disease and other problems from having their head knocked about frequently and with force. A recent report showed 96% of deceased NFL players tested positive for brain disease. NINETY-SIX percent.

I reached the point where I could no longer stand to watch immature criminals make millions of dollars to play a game where they essentially injure themselves for life. Instead of spending hours watching this stuff, then talking about it with friends during the week I am now getting household chores done and spending more time with my family. I don't miss the NFL. I do still watch some college football.
