Every time I hear someone say that feminism is about validating every choice a woman makes I have to fight back vomit.

Do people really think that a stay at home mom is really on equal footing with a woman who works and takes care of herself? There’s no way those two things are the same. It’s hard for me to believe it’s not just verbally placating these people so they don’t get in trouble with the mommy bloggers.

Having kids and getting married are considered life milestones. We have baby showers and wedding parties as if it’s a huge accomplishment and cause for celebration to be able to get knocked up or find someone to walk down the aisle with. These aren’t accomplishments, they are actually super easy tasks, literally anyone can do them. They are the most common thing, ever, in the history of the world. They are, by definition, average. And here’s the thing, why on earth are we settling for average?

I'm all for equality. Women can have jobs and careers. But I'm also for them choosing what they want to do in life. If they want to raise kids, why should a darn be given? *shrug* Somebody has to do it, y'know? It doesn't have to be every woman, but if all women decided not have kids we'd go extinct. It does have value.

Before anything else in the world was established the family was. The family is the root core of homes, communities, states countries, even churches. If our families are weak so goes everything else.

There is nothing more important in this world than having, raising, and taking care of a family. The woman in the op may not know what that is like but she has her values placed in the wrong things.

If a woman wants to have a career outside of the family I do not criticize that. However, she needs to choose one or the other.

We do live in a day and age where two incomes are more necessary than ever. Unless it is only about having a nicer house or nicer cars etc.

I don't know that it's always an either/or situation...not that I would know, but I know women in careers who are also parents and seem to handle it well. I mean, yeah, if you have a family they should come first.

I'm shooting for a career in the field of art, myself. Graphic design. At this point I have no clue whether I'll ever get married or not. And if I do I'd probably hold off on kids for a while.

Very wise. Doing that gives you and your new wife time to learn to live with each other without the added dynamic of children. It also gives you time to build up savings for emergencies and savings in case of loss of income. And you can get a good jump on retirement.

If she thinks being a Mom is so easy, I would love to see her get up every two hours and feed a newborn. And changing a diaper is not physically difficult, but it certainly is an unpleasant chore. Clothing the children, rushing them around, a woman's work is never done.

Surely, this OP blog is a parody of some sort.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool feminist. Don't deny it. Ain't ashamed of it. But the author of this OP article (if it is a woman and is a genuine article) - she ain't in my league.

If this is a genuine article - it's a sick one.

My only comment is this one. I do hear praise of stay at home mothers and other mothers - on Mother's Day in church ("Let's hear it for our little mothers - you ladies are so important. Where are the roses?") But from the church - I never see recognition of mothers as on equal status as a male doctor or male politician or male preacher or male baseball player or male deacon - ever. So I have had to wonder all of my life - what does the church really think about women, specifically stay at home mothers, and their worth compared to a man's worth. Because what I see the rest of the year doesn't match what is proclaimed on Mother's Day.

Secular society places a person's worth on their NET worth or where their feet are placed on that corporate ladder. The higher both are - the more secular society adores you for it. Stay at home mothers have no net worth, they receive no monetary compensation, no perks, and many of them are not on the corporate ladder. Hence, the ignoring of their value and sometimes their disdain by secular society.

I see people on internet forums claim to "value" motherhood and stay at home mothers, but then again the things that come out of the other side of their mouths about women - in church, in the world, on the forums, women in general - confuse me - because the message is the opposite.

While the article in the OP is stupid (stupid enough for me to question its genuineness) and contains no merit, I just thought I'd throw out another train of thought.

Spewing a mess of bile is easy compared to writing something that has merit, that will make people think, that will change perceptions or make someone laugh or cry or call them to action towards all the [expletive] injustice in the world.

Saying that women who choose to be moms and wives rather than being a doctor or an engineer are not as important as women who do choose those paths isn’t a new notion, it’s something that women contemplate and struggle with and face everyday. It’s something that women who are wives and moms, outside of any other path, have been guilted for and criticized for and negated for their entire married and child-raising lives.

We hear you Amy, but it’s not like we haven’t heard it a gazillion times before, by writers a lot more eloquent than you.

I love me some ragey click bait. I love scandalous ideas and train wrecks and car crash journalism as much as the next person with an Internet connection and some time to kill. And I think every woman should be allowed to have her opinion, no matter how “wrong” and misguided I feel their opinion is.

It’s fine that this writer doesn’t see raising a family as being valuable. As someone raising a family I feel differently. But I just can’t muster the energy to care about fighting this notion when I have laundry to do.

She's a whole lot of young lady's right now, and that's why we should care.

It's a disheartening attitude, to be sure, but it goes far beyond that.

Far too many young ladies are adopting this way of thinking and have no respect for women. They take pride in the idea that they are, or will become, highly educated and have great careers, that this is what spells success.

Unfortunately, the concept of being a kind person of good character and high standards that has a positive impact on other people seems to hold little or no value. It is especially disturbing that many believe that what most women are naturally able to do - grow life inside of them and then sustain it with their own bodies - is of little to no value. It is amazing, even if "common." To deny the beauty and power of that is not "freeing" in the least. It only serves to strip women of the power and beauty with which most are naturally born.

The author of the quoted article, like so many of today's misguided women, is not a feminist. A true feminist would never seek to destroy suppress the heart and soul of a female, but to strengthen and enhance what already exists.

A true feminist will recognize that women are equal in value, yet distinct in abilities, and anyone who cares about humans, male or female, will not bash and degrade a person for choosing a role in society that doesn't fit with other person's view of what defines personal success.

Success is different for everyone. Some find value in raising other human beings. Some find value in teaching other human beings. Some find value in architecture. Some find value in leading. Some find value in art. Some find value in medicine. Some find value in recycling. Some find value in serving. The possibilities are endless, and all are a valued part of a working society. To choose just a few out as having value is the epitome of ignorance.

I'm a feminist...depending on your definition of feminism. If you think of feminism as "baww, men are evil!!!1!!", I'm not that kind. (Or if feminism is too nasty a word for you, I can use egalitarian instead.)
I don't see much of a connection to political theories since you can be for gender equality and be conservative or liberal regardless.
