    What denomination are you?
    Primitive Baptist

How do you serve in the music ministry of your church?
I sing, congregational singing, no choir.

How much formal musical training do you have?
A few weeks of various singing schools.

How much practice do you put into your area of service?
No practice, but I sing a lot both at church and at Sacred Harp singings.

Would you consider your church to be fundamental, why?
YOU probably would, but I am not sure of operational definition of "fundamentalist" myself, so I will demur.

What are your feelings on Contemporary Christian Music?
I have never really heard any of it.

Is there “Rock” (for lack of a better word) music at your church Sunday morning?
No, just shapenote tunes with old hymn poetry.

i'm one of those others :p
hopefully one day one of the leaders.

    1) play guitar (getting a djembe soon!)
    2) formal music training? like music lessons? maybe 6 months - but i've been playing guitar for almost 4 years
    3) i try to play everyday
    4) fundamental? no. charismatic? no. a mix of both? heck yes.
    5) hmm. CCM. i have over 100 christian albums. and they're not all hymns. that answer the question? :p
    6) 'rock'... as in - electric guitar, drum kit couple singers, lights and what not? then i'd have to say no. 'rock' as in an acoustic guitar with the occasional djembe a few singers and an overhead. then i'd have to say yes. :p

i'm getting a djembe soon (african drum) - and after this summer i hope to get a set of turn-tables. :p

    God bless!

    Amity,

Just curious, are you someone that I might know?

Whereabouts in Central TX do you live?

What church do you go to?

If you'd prefer to talk through PM, that would be fine.

but if it moves both...so much the better...as long as it is God-honoring.

I play piano and select and prepare the music so, even though I don't have an official title, I suppose that makes me the de facto music director.

    Yes.

    We're up to about 90.

No, but as we get more members, it's something we'd like to have in the future.

    No.

Twenty years as a professional/semi-professional musician.

Familiar? Yes. Skilled? Just a little.

Many years of choir and glee club.

    No.

    Artistically, it's terrible.

Morally, it isn't necessarily bad but what's out there now tends to be very weak doctrinally.

    Absolutely not.

Although those of you who know me know that I love rock music, I feel very strongly that it isn't appropriate for church or for worship.

The church we broke off from used rock music, even redoing hymns over with rock versions of them.

That was one of the reasons we left. When we started this church, one of the things we put our foot down about was "NO ROCK AND ROLL". ((Boy, I know some folks here are really going to shocked to see that!))

Music should be used in worship to communicate a sense of reverence, not to manipulate the woshipper, as is so often the case in today's man-centered "worship" music.

What denomination are you? Old Regular Baptist.

How do you serve in the music ministry of your church? Don't have one.

How much formal musical training do you have? None.

How much practice do you put into your area of service? Sing at home sometimes.

Would you consider your church to be fundamental, why? Yes, I think so.

What are your feelings on Contemporary Christian Music? Not for me.

Is there “Rock” (for lack of a better word) music at your church Sunday morning? No.

Any other comments about music would be appreciated. We practice congregational singing only. No musical instuments. Mostly lined-out hymns.

    Faith:
    Baptist
    For Everyone Else:
    What denomination are you?
Missionary Baptist (the church we currently attend regularly is not our church, but we are tending to my elderly parents and take them to their church most Sundays)

How do you serve in the music ministry of your church?
By singing with the rest of the congregation, usually bass; there is no choir; on the very few occasions when they have no musicians there, I sound the pitch of the songs to start them

How much formal musical training do you have?
Music and choir in Jr. High and several one week shape note singing schools.

How much practice do you put into your area of service?
None related to practice at or with the church; I often sing/practice at home or while driving; there is also an informal monthly singing

Would you consider your church to be fundamental, why?
They are conservative and would consider themselves believing the fundamentals of the faith, but normally do not refer to themselves as "fundamentalists".

What are your feelings on Contemporary Christian Music?
Don't care for it, although there are a few songs I like that might be considered contemporary. Understanding just what that genre is, is a little out of my experience anyway.

Is there “Rock” (for lack of a better word) music at your church Sunday morning?
    No.

Any other comments about music would be appreciated.
The singing in the church is mostly a mixture of what might be called southern gospel (think Albert E. Brumley songs), Sacred Harp (e.g. Greenfields, Wondrous Love, Pisgah, New Britain), and other old church hymns.
