"I never knew you." So how do I get Him to know me?

"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

So people always ask "do you know Christ?" Or "do you know Jesus?"

My question: isn't it MORE important that He knows me rather than the other way around?
It's absolutely essential. You can't know Him unless He knows you.

My other question: how do I make sure He knows me?
The same way you make sure God does anything else: you don't. God either knew you before the foundation of the earth, or He didn't.

Like many, I don't want to hear our Lord tell me "I never knew you".

Thoughts?
Real assurance of salvation has one source, the Holy Spirit. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God, Rom. 8:16. If you lack that witness, or are insensitive to it, then prayer is your only recourse.

“Trembling sinner, look to Jesus” by Charles H. Spurgeon

“Trembling sinner, look to Jesus, and thou art saved. Dost thou say, ‘My sins are many’? His atonement is wondrous. Dost thou cry, ‘My heart is hard’? Jesus can soften it. Dost thou exclaim, ‘Alas, I am so unworthy’? Jesus loves the unworthy. Dost thou feel, ‘I am so vile’? It is the vile Jesus came to save. Down with thee, sinner; down, down with thyself, and up with Christ, who hath suffered for thy sins upon Calvary’s cross.

Turn thine eye thither; see Jesus only. He suffers. He bleeds. He dies. He is buried. He rises again. He ascends on high. Trust Him, and thou art safe. Give up all other trusts, and rely on Jesus alone, alone on Jesus, and thou shalt pass from death unto life.

This is the sure sign, the certain evidence of the Spirit’s indwelling, of the Father’s election, of the Son’s redemption, when the soul is brought simply and wholly to rest and trust in Jesus Christ, who ‘hath once suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.’”

–Charles H. Spurgeon, “Our Suffering Substitute: A Sermon on 1 Peter 3:18,” originally published in The Sword and The Trowel Magazine (1895),

This is good brain food.

It is time to think upon these things. I do not want to be self-deluded.
In my humble opinion your answer may be found in 1st John 2. The last verse in that chapter reads;
1Jn 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

Righteousness is ours if we allow Christ to live our life for us. Consider Him in every part of our lives.
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

If we live by the faith of the Son of God and not our own. He does know us because He direct's our path.

My question: isn't it MORE important that He knows me rather than the other way around?

If You know Him...He will know you. If He knows you, ...you will know Him.

My other question: how do I make sure He knows me?

By choosing to place your faith, and thats faith alone, and hope for eternal life in HIM.

Like many, I don't want to hear our Lord tell me "I never knew you".

If you are in Christ you dont have to worry about that at all.

Praise God.

"know" is an intimate relationship (used in the Bible of marital bed). To "know" Christ is to have that relationship.

The demand of the Gospel was "exhibit fruit of your repentance". Evidently, people had the same problem then as now.

Big on words (I love God, I'm a child of God, I'm a Pharisee, blah blah).

Jesus said (in effect) "Where's the beef?"

The message to the 7 churches:

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
