Good question, which I've asked. I can only answer for myself. If the pledge had never had the words "Under God" added, I would have no problem reciting the pledge today. I can't imagine anyone who would. But some people are not aware that the addition of "under God" is relatively contemporary, having been added in the 50's as a way of combating Soviet communism. Its reference was never intended to recognize a religious establishment or be secterian. So you would not recognize the pre-1954 [pledge of allegience] version that was recited by our WWII heroes?
Since "Under God" is now there, it should stay. But if it were never palced there in the first place, it should be of no issue.
