Gib Gib Gib...no. LOL
Here's why.
My father got one when I was little. It got off the leash in the yard and ran away. I was blamed for it, then told to find it.
Do you know how HARD it is to find a lost dog that doesn't bark when you live in the woods???? Call it all you want, it doesn't answer!

I say - GOOD LUCK! </font>[/QUOTE]Hey Dan, I think she needs a Devon Rex. Or maybe an Abyssinian.

Pretty much every breed has a national rescue network. You can go to www.akc.org and look up any of the breeds and they will have a link to that breed's national organization(s).

Thanks everyone. Some very good suggestions.

Ken, I will check that site out.

I think Wire Fox Terriers are cute, but I've never had one. They don't get very large and they don't shed...we shall see.

A Border Collie fits all the criteria in my book. Will never consider any lesser breed.

And I can go to one of the Basque sheepherders and get one just weaned and the price is cheap - a newspaper and a case of Spam.

Kid you not.

Shetland Sheepdogs rule the 16" agility class, Dr. Bob. :D

Hey! You guys are forgetting I don't want a long-haired dog that sheds a lot!

Dan: If I wanted a dog that looked like a cat, I would just get a cat!

Went to that site Ken. The prices are too high at the 'rescue farms'.

I will be going to our local pound next week to see what they have. I'm in no big hurry.

We have a little Maltese Poodle mix named Macy. She's almost 8 weeks old, so quite hyper. She'll have to be groomed though, but doesn't seem to shed a lot. She's going to be around 8 pounds full grown. Such a little lady.

Well, Abbys don't shed much, and Devons don't shed at all, and they're both very smart and socialable - and since cats are much better pets than dogs...... :D

Are there actually Basque sheepherders near where you live?

Thanks Abiyah. They listed a bunch one of which was chichuachua, which I prefer, but wouldn't mind that toy poodle.

Have u considered a mixed bread? Sometimes they get the best features from each bread and are general healthier from my experience.
