Was the word of God "broke" in 1605, that someone needed to "fix it"? Serious question, not sarcasm.

II. Music
"I hear alot of people talkin' about their praise and worship music.....I thought that's what we where doin' years ago when we sung 'Pow'r in the Blood.'
What about years before "Pow'r in the Blood" came out? Why was the old Gregorian-type chants and later more classical work replaced with "contemporary" foot-stompin', hand-clappin' "Pow'r in the Blood" type songs?

I wanna tell you tonight, there's nothing wrong with the old wells of God!"
Amen, but your "old wells" are actually relatively new. ;) Even the "old" King James has been around for less than 20% of church history.

Surely you jest or overemphasize to make a point. It may be a little hard at first, but most English people of average intelligence should be able to read actual 1611 KJV. It may be archaic, but it is not a different language.</font>[/QUOTE]So true. My ten-year-old can handle it just fine.

I'm really tempted to answer back, but it seems that there are a few people that are alrady angry with me for starting this thing. So I will say this - I really don't appreciate those of you who keep dragging it along by trying to argue when I'm doing what I should in asking it be closed. So please - stop posting in reply to this if you're going to carry on the argument...please.

Bro. Kevin, just because people see things differently and express why they disagree, doesn't mean they are arguing or that the thread should be closed.
This is a *discussion* board, and you generated some. :D

BTW, according to my hymnal, "Power in the Blood" was written in 1899. In the context of the life of Christian music, that song is still a baby.

One must me very careful when selecting an edition of the bible. Many people like the modern versions but there are instances where the modern text strays from the original meaning, and some versions even omit verses (NIV).

I'm not asking that this thread be closed because people disagree with me. I have no problem with a difference of opinion - but it seems that some are upset that I've brought up a topic I didn't know was a ..I guess you'd say "bad topic" to bring up on this board.

And a quick response: If I could get ahold of songs more old fashioned than the ones I sing - I would surely sing them. And If I could get an older Bible than the 1611, I would surely read it.

As a latecomer to this thread I would like to add a few points.

First, without going specifically into the KJV and CCM/praise chorus issues, I agree in general with Kevin that there is an awful lot of sentiment that if something is not "new" it's no good. "Newness" has nothing to do with something being "better", so I say don't change something unless it's a clear improvement.

As an example, I am sick to death of going to Christmas season services or gatherings and having to sing "new" Christmas music because supposedly "everyone is tired of the same old Christmas carols". Ask around...you'll find that PRACTICALLY NOBODY is tired of traditional Christmas carols that we sing only once or twice a year. To the contrary, most people LOVE them. In my opinion, the only one who is "tired" of them is someone who is perhaps a bit proud and wants to "leave their mark" on the service through a "unique" selection of music.

Lastly, Kevin started this thread with some ideas for discussion, and was blasted and ridiculed by those who ironically imply the he is critical or intolerant. He must have hit some nerves.

Welcome to the board, Kevin, keep posting.

Well, that's because their nerves already are rubbed raw on other threads.

No offense, Bro. Kevin, but please read some other threads to pick up the discussion. I know you're new, but others are not and they have a history.

I think you've already experienced what is in store.

LOL

Bro. Kevin - What a "baptism of fire"! You sure know how to pick "fluff" topics that will just get some "amen's", don't you.

Hey, don't try to close it, or run scared. This is just the nature of the BB. It is done in good humor as well as edification . . and you will get every opinion in the world on about every topic.

Hang in there. I know some have stuck a fork in it, but don't think this thread is "done" yet!

Scared? Trying to get some amens? I'm not here to get amens, I'M A 15 YEAR OLD KID! You know what, forget it. I came here to have some fellowship with some fellow Christians but now - you're insulting ME personally. I'm out of here. To those who were being nice, whether you agreed or otherwise - thank you. It makes me sad to say that the people I use to hang out with online were alot nicer than some of you have been.

Kevin --

I wish you would not go. You have seriously mis-
understood Dr. Bob. Please reread his post--he
said nothing wrong. He is one of the sweetest
guys around.

Kevin - Kewl it, dude. I've got a Dell!

I want you to stay and wrote to encourage you to hang in there. We NEED young guys to come on here and learn and grow and share and stretch us dinosaurs!

I am truly sorry you read into my other post something negative. There was no such intent. Now, my humor is pretty warped, but usually I find it a good way to couch the strong doctrinal stances I espouse.

See you around.

It is interesting to look at but not really helpful in Bible study...especially when there are other KJV revisions that are easier to use...not to mention other English translations that are perfectly fine.

Dear Bro Kevin,

Surely the shoe can be put on your own foot?
Your opening proposition seemed to be inflammatory against those who use Modern Versions, as if the choice of their Bible was an indication of their spiritual wisdom. Now perhaps there was no apparent motive on your part to do this but as the Bible says our hearts are deparately wicked and so much so that we can't know it without His help. I have learned this the hard way. Those who are your elders here have corrected you probably because they wanted to spare you the pain and suffering of our heavenly Father's chastisement.

Besides, there was a day about 400 years ago that a certain King of England was unhappy with the then current proliferation of versions of The Word of God in English (Tyndale Bible, Coverdale Bible, Geneva Bible...) and decided to have a fresh start with a modernized version more in tune with the current spoken English tongue as well as the Hierachical point of view of the Church of England.

You know the rest of the story.
