If it were up to you ...

Would you lift the current restrictions regarding quarantine on May 1, or would you extend it (and why or why not)?

I would not lift them per se but I would tweak them. Allow people to go back to their jobs on a voluntary basis, but still maintain separation as much as practical. For those at risk maintain the restrictions but for the young and healthy, let them go back to work. Just be ready to test them immediately if they experience any symptoms. And treat them with a low dosage of the drugs that appear to work to be safe. Then when the test come back, then put them on the drug regiment with the best possibility to cure the patient.

We can't keep up a Stay Home policy forever. Take small steps to get back to normal. But do it carefully.

I just have a quick follow up question: would you allow restaurants (fast food and otherwise) to reopen their dining rooms for business on May 1, for instance?

I cringe at this question. I so want to say yes, allow them to open. But, my experience with the grocery stores leads me to use caution in that case. I was in a grocery store today. The government recommends everyone wear a mask and gloves. About half the people were making an attempt to social isolate and the other half was not trying in the least bit. I saw a bunch of people with not mask and gloves. To me that is not that great of a problem, but then these people just grabbed a buggy and made no attempt to clean the handle or anything. A bunch of them were there with their kids and were making no attempt to have them keep their hands to themselves. It is apparent that they could care less.

Then when it comes to restaurants, we must consider who uses them. Many older people eat out a lot because of the problem of them having a hard time cooking. If these older people go back to eating out, they will have to put up with the younger people who just don't care. Because of that, sit down restaurants are a substantial risk. As for the fast food restaurants, because they serve a younger clientele, let them open their dining rooms but mandate them to put up a warning sign advising people that there is an increased risk to eating in the dining room.

Yes. Begin opening back up except for any hot spots. Let restaurants open but with only half capacity for a month. Let hair salons, dog grooming services and such open up, but require face coverings for all people in them due to the closeness of individuals in them. Allow all other businesses to open back up but only as the owners and their workers feel comfortable.

I think if businesses had not been relying on the government for guidance and direction, and private companies had not been hamstrung by the CDC and the FDA in rolling out their own testing products, but had acted proactively as they thought best as they saw the virus spreading in Europe, that we could have done much better in this country.

Also, I would allow all sports to open back up but without crowds through the end of May.

Different areas can open up different amounts. My county has 13 active cases among 39,000 people. There is no reason for my county to be treated like large cities such as NYC, Detroit, Chicago, etc.

At the end of May we can assess where we are.

KEEP THE ELDERLY ISOLATED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AWAITING THE VACCINE.

Then like we test he shower water let selected rural areas loosen the rules and carefully observe the results.

what we don't want is an extensive outbreak, at one point we will probably have to let nature take its due until the vaccine.

Sports - sure allow spectators - but require a good separation of seats between non-family members.
Same with reasturants,ect

Barber shops - say a shop has 3 chairs - only allow one client at a time.

Ect, ect

No
Nothing has changed.
We have slowed the rapid spread of the virus through isolation.
We have reduced the input of sick into the hospitals, the hospitals were not overwhelmed, this reduced the death rate since those that were ill were cared for adequately.

We still have no cure, no vaccine, not even a complete understanding of how this virus kills.

Easing the restrictions will limit the economic depression, but don’t be fooled, people will die.

I will continue isolation, particularly after I begin working... so as an employee in a high risk industry, I don’t spread it to others.

It’s a tough call, one that I personally believe the characteristics of our President were specifically what this country needed to deal with this situation. His decisions in this crisis will overshadow any stain impeachment was designed to cause.

people will die.

People may die from this virus for the rest of human history. We have tens of thousands die from the flu every year in the United States alone and we have a yearly vaccine for it.

If they need to NYC and other large metropolitan areas shut down for a while, then do so. I see no reason to treat the whole country like NYC.

I woulkd do a state by state as areas wide open like utah and mountain states should be pretty much back to normal, but NY and LA long ways to go!

Sports can be televised without a crowd.

I figure movie theaters are on their way out just like drive-ins disappeared. As large as home TVs are nowadays and the plethora of streaming services, movie theaters are quickly losing relevancy. I don’t recall going to see a movie in a theater since 2014, but I can watch movies just a few months after they are released.

Concerts can also be streamed.

Places where thousands of people gather for entertainment should probably just be televised or streamed at least until after we see how things go in May.
