I've been to Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania during the summer, and it's cool there, a big difference from Oklahoma or the South. Our son is home on leave from Camp Pendleton, San Diego, he says it's a lot hotter here but he also just came back from Okinawa and Thailand and says it's even hotter there. I think it's just what you get used to.
And yes, we do have air conditioning...everywhere, home, church, schools, cars...in this area of the world it's just normal and expected.

Back in Hungary we never had AC. The first time I was exposed to it in the US Army, I got the flu. Rarely do I use AC at home, only when we really need it. And I never like to sit in a direct line of the cold air flow.

Now if I want to cool down, I only have to think of a couple of icebergs (such as the link below) and I got it made!

Were you aware that the Feds offer a cooling assistance program (a division of LIHEAP) to the elderly during the summer. Some years it even buys window a/c units for them. Unfortunately we didn't get any money for the program this year. We believe it is due to the war.

Update on cooling assistance. . .just got a fax from DHR in Atlanta. Looks like every state EXEPT for FL, MS, GA, and TX are getting cooling assistance. Not sure why Pennsylvania is getting it and not Florida, but oh well. . .

Well, here in Hawaii in the Summer, it is mostly always 86-87 degress everyday and the lows get into the mid 70's. Usually there are tradewinds that make it comfortable.

In the winter (brrrrrrr) the highs usually hit 80-84 degrees and the lows if if gets real cold may dip into the high 60s. Most nights here Summer and Winter are absolutely gorgeous and you could take some nice long walks.

I have been in SC where it could be 100 degrees with 100% humidity and I have been to Vegas where it has hit 115 degrees but with no humidity. I don't think it has ever hit 90 degrees here in Hawaii since I have been here. The Southeast heat and humidity is the worst I have ever been in........

When in SC in the Summer, my car had no A/C and a simple short trip to the store and back during the day had me completely drenched in sweat; it was miserable!

When I was growing up, if we had a/c, it was one of those horrid swamp coolers. Baby, give me dry heat any day.

I didn't have a car that had a/c in it until I was, what, 25, and I was very proud. Haven't had one without since, unless it broke.

Church a/c's? Always attended a church that had it. Except in Ukraine. WE PRAYED FOR BREEZES!!!

I could probably take it, but I would have to give it up all around.
