IFB vs SBC

I didn't know that contemporary worship was an incidence nor did I know that it was less conservative. But, at least you didn't say it was un-Biblical.

 

There are always exceptions to the rule. It is funny, I have gone to KJV only Southern Baptist churches and I have seen services online of contemporary worship in an Independent Baptist church. Go figure. I'd say if the church is otherwise teaches the Bible, Biblical standards are followed, etc., if they are SBC, more power to them. That's what is great about the autonomy of the local church, an undeniably Baptist doctrine. By the way, in the KJV only Southern Baptist Church we attended briefly, they reworked songs by the Monkees (e.g. "I'm a believer") and sang them in services. Churches run the gamut in both circles of influence.

You are wrong. It was written by Neil Diamond and performed by the Monkees and then the youth group at said church. Now, the Apologetics may have sung a song called "I'm a Believer" or redid the Neil Diamond song, but I know nothing of them.

 

What I am saying, is the Christian version sung in some churches, that have some of the words changed, is by the Apologetix...

Etc. etc.

Certainly they did not sing the song by Neil Diamond "As is"? That has nothing to do with God.

 

You are right, they took the music of the world and attempted to apply a very thin veneer of Christianity to it by altering some of the words.

 

This is not a music thread, it is supposed to be about IFB and SBC churches.

 

I've been both (IFB and SBC) and I can get along with both, as well as with quite a few "non-Baptist" groups. I just love it when folks point out the sins in another group and proclaim sinless perfection for their group. What hypocrisy!

 

I don't know of any SBC or IFBs who do that. We teach and preach and hear that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Do you have specific examples and from which group? This certainly would be instructive in the differences between IFB and SBC, The fact is, everybody has their own stereotype of what an IFB church is like, then they *rightly* deduce that all SBC churches are independent and different. It is the same with the IFB churches too. On a whole, though I'd say the IFB churches are more separated, have more conservative music, and the preaching is more pointed. Just on a whole, though. See my caveat in previous posts.

 

Outside of SBC churches particaping in the SBC programs, the only real differences is the name over the door. IFB and SBC churches are both Baprist and independant, and both come in good and bad, liberal and conservative.

 

That's probably a good way to sum it up.
