Ignore feature

I really don't like to use it, but in the past few months, several people have been posing who regularly accuse other of false doctrine and ask leading questions to provoke others to argue with a very minorly help view. Others regularly demean and belittle anyone who does not believe that the KJV is the Superior, inspired version.

I hate using ignore but have had to. If it were up to me, and some might call me Satan for saying this, I would get rid of people who only want to cause dissension and division and argue gray areas.

@Piper,
I prefer not to use the ingnore feature.
I do not mind others not agreeing with me. And I see were, yes, many cannot understand my views. Different presuppositions. Base beliefs are hard to change.

I also try not to use ignore as it would not let me see the instances where there is agreement. There are times where I may have an opposing view to someone in one thread and then in another thread we may be in hearty agreement and vice versa.

To your point though, if that never happens and the person is always in disagreement on every issue then they are likely causing trouble, not being honest and being contentious. At that point the ignore feature can be helpful.

On a more serious note, some members are looking for an echo chamber and when they do not find it they become hostile towards other views. I do not see this as edifying.

I've learned about a lot of different views on this board, and even though I may disagree with their positions I appreciate the time they took to explain what they believe and why they believe it.

I've learned about Primitive Baptist doctrine from @tyndale1946 (even though I'm not a PB ...he wouldn't let me join anyway). I've discussed PB doctrine with @kyredneck (and he taught me about salting brisket and mushrooms.....not the kind you're thinking). @Salty taught me patience and gave sound advise. @rsr reeled me to n a few times. @Reynolds explained Reformation Arminianism (and gave me some fishing spots).

We do not have to agree with one another. We don't need to try to change one another's mind. We can learn about different views without adopting them.

You are right that some are here only to disrupt. Many have been given more chances than are appropriate and are on their final strike. Just use the report feature if anybody violated a rule.

If they are simply being careful jerks, then I'd suggest ignoring them.

People seem to forget that this is an online forum. It isn't our lives. And it isn't so important that we should get hung up on things.

And some are looking to form it after their own image.

Yes. Those are the ones I was speaking of. They cannot tolerate any view but their own. They want an echo chamber.

A few years ago they bragged about it (that their hounded several members until they left, harassed a Staff member until he left, and lately resorted to threatening members with physical confrontation.

That will not be tolerated here.

Here members can express their beliefs and discuss differences. They can even debate. But they will not be allowed to bully members.

Oh yes, it seems you also mean to extend your oversight into areas of human relations that are outside the scope of your responsibility.

That's like the DEI statements of late. I have no idea what the occurrence was, but unless it happened on this site, it's none of your business.

No. Threatening members and harassing members is against the BB rules. Your continued presence (at this moment, anyway) is proof. :Wink

If someone cannot refute arguments against the doctrine they proclaim, they either use fallacious arguments or the ignore button. Go figure.

I have spent months and dozens of postings contending, striving, and begging people to stop irrationally;
A.) insisting on adding to the verses they argue,
B.) insisting on subtracting from the verses they argue,
and C.) insisting that their secondary sources trump the Word of God.

Fortunately, my criteria for eventually using the ignore button is A.), B.), and/or C.).

I happen to love the ignore feature very much and have found myself quite happy to have used it a dozen or more times.

So be it.

Simple energy conservation.

I understand. Personally, I have tried to avoid it's use, only because I want to try and interact with anyone with a spirit of grace and humility. It just seems that some people are so sure of their opinion and interpretations that they try and manipulate people into them.

Reviving this. I am on the verge of another use. Why is it that some people cannot admit when they are wrong?
