illegal music downloads

Muscians are artists and some barely scrape by
they deserve to get full recompense for the fruit
of their labor.

I would rather have the next great
trumpet player ..in a sound studio creating,

rather than busing tables and trumpet playing part time.

It is so easy and a keystroke away to do harm
to these artists and they do their best in
selling their music by giving samples and a
occasional mp3.

Lets support the artists

Wow the tetosterone is flowing mighty heavy these days on the BB. I have a question Joeseph Bostwinic If I buy a C.D. and burn a copy of it there is nothing wrong with that is there? But if give the copy to a friend how would you discern that type of action.

I don't know the exact language of the law about burning one for yourself. However, if you burn a CD and then give it to your friend, then you have stolen it and are a theif.

Travelsong you appreciate music and love it
why not see the error of your ways and turn
back to advocating full support for the artists.

It is a virtual rennasaince of great music the
internet now provides..new artist every day
trying to pay the bills and go on tour..I love
going to CDbaby and seeing who is new and discovering a great new band or vocalist but you
can tell these artists are on a shoestring and
are fledglings in a sea of big time record labels
and over hyped artists(Madonna).

Support the artists and discourage illegal downloads.

Well Joe I stand corrected but you need to look at you post from someone elses perspective, it comes out sounding holier than thou and that has a tendecy to rub some people the wrong way.

I agree with helping the artists. And, in the spirit of doing so, I think we also have to criminally punish those who steal from them.

Joe , it is the tone of some of your post that sounds so judgemental I think Travelsong felt that way. Maybe you don't intend to come out sounding that way and I am not saying that you are it just has tha appearance to me. Maybe you reccomend a good charm school for me to attend.

Didn't you see mine ? Not that I make enough money playing music for people to steal.

I am no musician and Bro. Curtis already gave his opinion. Is there anyone else with first hand experience (being that they are a musician). Also thanks Bro. Curtis for your imput. I'm sure in every field, no one would appreciate money being taken from their pocket, which is essentially what is happening. I am not legalistic by any means, but I hate to see an artist lose money that he deserves. That being said file sharing programs can be a good way for new artists to get their music heard (including christian artists), just something to consider.

Brother Curtis it is because we both love and
admire music and musical artists. Most artists
are not sell outs they are true to their craft
and suffer in the process. Living in poverty
until a good gig comes along or a record deal.

In our society we seem to elevate some big shot
lawyer or wheeler dealer who constantly sells
out.

A majority of musical artists stay true to their
vision and what their sound should be.

You have your big marketing ploys such as
Garth Brooks and the Chris Gaines escapade.

Hillary Duff(and I like her)but look at the
image making ..was it about the music or her
pop/movie carreer.(Madonna,Britney,Christina all
interchangable with Hillary)

My point is this, these big time waves of "The next best thing" seem to steal the oxygen out of the room.

While the real artists clings to the next gig
or 1000 cd's sold on some unheard of label.

Now comes the big slap, some young kid with
a crew of his friends stealing from these artists
with illegal downloading and distrubution.

This is an easy one...illegal downloading
must be discouraged because it hurts fledgling
artists who need a break.

If the artist has given permission to download, burn, etc... that is one thing. But just downloading something without permission is stealing.
