Pew Research released a poll that only 4% of illegals call themselves Republicans and only 15% lean Republican.

Yet Arizona Sen John McCain has joined with the Democrats to only make token efforts to secure our borders and at the same time allow illegals to vote as soon as possible. Is McCain senile?

McCain used to fashion himself like a Goldwater-type conservative. But his true colors show themselves.

Well, Crabtown, that is really the joke about why there is no hurry at all on this issue. Those who want to are probably voting already.

With the motor-voter law of a few years ago, registration was federalized. You couldn't even get dead people off the rolls until they missed two federal elections unless you made a special appeal to the county clerk, who usually didn't have time for that sort of thing. We had several cases of people in Indiana who had homes in both Indiana and Florida and felt entitled to vote in both places. Now state governments are comparing voting lists and helping counties compare lists to delete multiple registrations.

At any rate, all you need most places is a driver's license to register to vote. FAIR, Federation for American Immigration Reform, notes that many employers accept voter registration as proof of citizenship so illegals are encouraged to register.

There is reason to believe that some illegal aliens applying for driver"s licenses deliberately, rather than accidentally, seek voter registration. This is due to the fact that the employer sanctions law adopted in 1986 to deter employment of illegal aliens allows a voter registration card to be used as one of the documents that establishes the employee"s identity. That document, plus a Social Security card, is all that is necessary to establish work eligibility. Thus, the fact that some non-citizens register to vote is not necessarily a harmless misunderstanding of the rules, as immigrants" rights groups contend.
