So you agree that neocons aren't the only ones wishing to increase the size of the military?

And what is wrong with "the neocon wish to significantly increase the size of the military"? Is there something wrong with that position per se, or with what they want to do with the military? The article said something about removing Hussein from power. As I recall, neocons weren't the only ones saying Hussein should be removed from power. Also if Rumsfeld is frustrating neocons' wishes for a bigger military, it's not just neocons that are frustrated.

There are also a host of other reasons to boost the size of the military that have nothing to do with the neoconservative agenda, the most obvious being strengthening our position, capabilities, and ability to respond in debstabilizing situations in the Pacific given China's increasing strength and position in the region as well as being able to respond to destabilizing actions by the North Koreans. One would have to be paranoid to argue that those concerns are only being raised by neocons. In fact, most of that debate has had little to do with "a neocon position".

Clinton had five Jews in his cabinet, and appointed two to the supreme court.

Somebody remind me which is the neocon administration ?

Being a Jew and being a neocon are nowhere near being synonymous.

    Not necessarily true.
Two points. General education level and access to information are far more important than the level of industrialization.

Second, the US was not industrialized when our democratic republic was formed. If principles are "True" they transcend economics or even cultural distinctives.

    1) Unless the conditions exist for democracy to flourish, then one country cannot impose it on another country.

    2) We were not a third world nation when our constitutional republic was created.

    A couple of random observations:

Very true, Ken, but Patrick Buchanan and others have found a connection there.

Scott didn't say we were a third world nation. It is a far cry between asserting a country is not industrialized and that it is therefore a Third World nation.

Agreed, Ken, I believe you are starting to come around to my way of thinking.

Also, democracy cannot flourish in an islamic state which is what the Bush doctrine created - an islamic state.
