Turn the other cheek.

Now show me where he says it is all right to take a weapon into a worship service. [I know you are not honorable enough to answer, much less admit you are wrong.]

Yeah. You said "heresy". Show me where carrying a a weapon into church is heresy. Last chance.

Oh, that Jesus.....

Matthew 10:34-36 NAS77
34 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 "For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW;
36 and A MAN'S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.

Now let's hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

Luke 22:36

Now, CTB, show me where Christians are told to butcher the unborn for profit - as you excuse.

Padre, a rather liberal interpretation of those verses as they are about following him and the problems that may cause. Those verses are not about worshop services.

Where are the verses about worship services that claim having a weapon is heresy? You have been asked a few times and I haven't seen your reply.

I had a weapon on me this morning while I preached. I could not have boarded an airplane, entered a public office building or entered a school but I had a weapon on me the whole time at church. Nobody felt threatened. No one was injured. Neither of my elders proclaimed HERESY. In fact one of the elders asked to use my weapon before church started.

Gun toting maniacs.... Really?

You feel it is appropriate and credible to cite an individual who is openly hostile to the Christian faith, a self-avowed secular humanist who desires NO religion (his words not mine) yet you dare question my use of Jesus' words when it fails to fit your narrative. You humor me. :flower:

Show me scripture telling you that Jesus says it is fine to carry weapons into a worship service.

Show me where Jesus says it is fine to display a nation's flag in a worship service.
Can I have the nation's flag in my home? What if the church meets in my home? Where is the command to remove the flag from my home because the church meets there?

Show me Scripture telling me the church building code?

What about Marines in Afghanistan, or on the deck of a Navy ship? Where ever two are three are gathered in His name . . .

As if Christ's teachings are really a concern of CBT as he lobbies for the legalization of sodomy and preaches that the unborn are unliving . . .

Luke 22:35-38 – And He said to them, “When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?” They said, “No, nothing.” 36 And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, ‘And He was numbered with transgressors’; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment.” 38 They said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”

Not only don't you believe that what Paul wrote in Scripture is inerrant, you pick and choose what you want to believe in what Jesus said. Jesus commanded the men to sell a coat and buy a weapon of personal defense.

Tom, a very liberal interpretation of that passage. It has to do about traveling, not worship services in a building.

I've always thought this verse was about Jesus fulfilling Isaiah 53:12, that is, "being counted among the transgressors". Having the apostles armed with swords would allow the Roman government to say, "see, Jesus says he is the King of the Jews and now he is fomenting armed aggression", thus giving them a reason to have him crucified. Peter only had two swords, to which Jesus said, "it is enough". In other words, having just two swords would be enough to make the Romans think the apostles were considering violent overthrow.

A few verses further in the passage in Luke, Peter cuts off one of the guards ears and Jesus heals the ear. He says, "No more of this!", meaning no more violence.

This means the apostles were supposed to have swords, for the reason I mentioned above, but not to actually use them since the one time the sword was used Jesus commands them not to do it again.

You have rejected the words of Jesus stating the interpretations were liberal yet you posted this tripe...

They have also been fierce advocates for guns that appears to be a fundamental principle defining evangelicals and belies their Christianity they claim spurs them to do “the lord’s work.” The new “American Christianity” has adopted Old Testament lessons of vengeance, massacres, slavery, and intolerance and summarily rejected Christ’s teachings of peace, charity, and concern for humanity.

...without reservation, absent any proof, data, or study. Your quest for Zen has polluted your world view.

Seems to me that this thread is rapidly degenerating into a volleyball-like contest that is drifting far away from the issue(s) of the OP.

I don't believe the vast majority of evangelical people are Gun Toting Maniacs. Someone would be hard-pressed to come up with a set of honest, verifiable statistics to conclusively prove that most evangelical people are really Gun Toting Maniacs for a couple of reasons.

First of all, one would have to prove that an evangelical is, by far, "a wildly or violently insane person; madman; lunatic" (Webster's New World College Dictionary, Fourth Ed., (c) 2004;p. 874.).

Secondly, simply because a person may carry a gun doesn't per se prove that a person is a gun-toting maniac. Most communities have regulations that forbid a person who's proven to fit the standard definition of a manic (see the previous paragraph) from carrying a gun on his person.

Some postings on this thread want to portray Jesus as either a someone who'd never get upset about a person wanting to defend himself or his family or his friends from bodily harm, or else one who'd ride into town at high noon with guns a-blazing determined to kill any Pharisee who dares to cross His pathway. Neither of these extremes is an accurate portrayal of our Savior.

At both the beginning and near the close of His public ministry He upset the temple area money changers' tables--hardly some a week-kneed wimp would do, but also Jesus said, "Come to Me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you for I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls" (Mt. 11:28-29).

God's Word challenges us as His children "to do your part to live in peace with everyone as much as possible" (Rom. 12:18); "bind yourselves together with peace" (Eph. 4:3); and "Work hard at living in peace with others" (1 Pet. 3:11).

We need to examine both sides of how God wants His people to live out their lives in this world. It's not merely an either/or criteria. Instead it's a both/and standard.

Jesus is both a compassionate Savior and the Judge Who'll one day call us all to account for the way we as evangelical Christians conduct ourselves.

I'm thankful that He's both!:jesus:
