In His Image: Why we should not be racist!

Gen. 1: 26-28 (NIT) Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." If we are truly created in His image, why and where in this world did racism become an issue? Is it a result of man's sin? Because I don't believe God intended for any of us to be at each other's throats for the color of our skin, or where our ancestors were originally located.

Maybe racism came as a result of science. The kind of scince where mankind decided to place tags on people based on their origins. If we believe the scripture, are we not all made by the hand of God, as one in His image?

I'd like some honest debate on this and not mud slinging, or baiting. How can we claim to be created by God, in His image, yet hold to three of five race classifications? Could it be one more effort of the devil to separate mankind not only from God but from truly being one?

At least in heaven, the colors that cause friction, here, will be put to rest as we all have new, everlasting bodies.

RD2 is right that racism is a sin and that it speaks against God as it diminishes (in the mind of the racist) the Image in which we are all created. Genesis tells us that we are still made in the image of God (i.e., the justification given for prohibiting murder is applicable to racism).

My issue is that racism is often seen in every person who disagrees with an issue and it is often inserted into situations. Working in certain areas I have the common sense to be more cautious (to expect danger where it may not actually be there based on experience). This caution would cause me to act more defensively than if I had my “guard down.” Some people will (foolishly) see this as racism because I would not have the same cautions in an “affluent white” area of town. I will leave my truck unlocked in some areas, but will lock it up and hide anything that may cause someone to break my window in other areas. Odds are that I will not get struck by lightning playing golf in a storm, but I still end my game out of caution. All of us consider odds, or we live as fools.

One thing that I’ve noticed about the controversial shootings is that they are more related to the situation than the race of the person (although race was also a part of the situation). Only a racist would claim the shootings “racially motivated,” and only a racist would deny that there existed racial issues/tensions within the communities involved. Racism removes all objectivity to the situation (as evidenced by many threads on the BB).

Those are all great questions. Questions that not only deserve an answer, but I'm sure those answers will come.

Funny you mentioned dating a black girl. I did have a crush on a black girl in HS, and she was always wanting to date me, too. But this was the 60's and bi-racial relationships were taboo. To this day I still regret allowing peer pressure to keep us from exploring a friendship beyond school.

White is a color and since I'm white doesn't mean I'm a racist.

A lot of people of color (including white) leaves much to be desired and as such, I have no use for snuggling up close to them. Does that make me a racist?

I believe any time a certain race outnumbers another race in any country the minority will be racist. I believe any time a certain race is in control of a country the minority will be racist. I believe if a certain race suppresses another race in any country the suppress race will be racist.

In Africa the blacks would be the Majority. In Israel the Jew would be the Majority. In France, Germany, Russia, Japan, China and so on.

Especially when the "image" of God has nothing to do with the physical appearance of man.

1. Jesus was a man who is said to be in the precise "image" of the INVISIBLE God - Col. 1:15

2. God is "a spirit" - Jn. 4:24

3. Jesus said that "a spirit" does not have a physical image as they could see that Jesus did.

Ro 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

1Co 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Not that the physical body bears any visible image but rather indwelling sin and corruption destroys its MORAL image.

5. The "image" of God consists of four things; (1) A Moral image; (2) A Positional image of rule - Gen. 1:26/1Cor. 11:5-6; (3) A trinune Image - threefold being - Mt. 28:19/1 Thes.5:23

6. The New birth restores the moral image to our spirit - Col. 3:10; Eph. 4:24

7. Sanctification restores the moral image progressively to our souls - 2 Cor. 3:18

8. The glorification of the body restores the moral image to our bodies

9. Restoration of the redeemed to a new heaven and earth restores the positional image of authority and rule.

The color of one's skin (brown, black, white, reddish) has nothing to do with the image of God

Not any of them by themselves would, but if you refused to date a black person just due to her being black, and thus seen as somehow not "worthy" of dating, as you are white and above her....
