We have a handful of Japanese folks that go to our church. They bow and shake at the same time.

What's fun is when I start to bow and they start to shake hands, or vice versa. We do a little song and dance. Culture shock in action!

A missionary in Japan knows it is time for furlough when he bows to the telephone and doesn't even realize it! :tongue3:

    lol,

Some people in churches just need to give diligence in adding to their faith and following the Lord and not worry about such childish things such as color of shirts, wire-rim glasses, white socks, and weird handshakes.

However, if a person gives you a Masonic handshake, be sure to explain to them that there is no such thing as a Masonic Christian!

I don't really understand the problem with the "handshake' , although I would not call it a handshake, maybe a type of greeting as in a salute.
But, what is really stupid is the church my sister goes to, the song leader was scolded by a church member because he was TAPPING his foot while leading a song. The member said that it was too much like dancing.

We allow one-foot tapping - that's OK. But two feet - that's too much like dancing!! (JUST KIDDING!)

    Gib, Keep pounding!

Tapping a foot too much like dancing?????? Since when is it unBiblical to dance? Another myth that circulates among Baptist circles that has no foundation.

Geeez... That's stupid. I grew up in Southwest Detroit. Gangs do alot worse than that! Now if you we're saying..."sup Nigga?" and "Flashing a gang gesture" or saying "Count Luv!" (or maybe Crip Lov) then yeah, I would wonder, but over something like that.... How absurd...

    Handshaking in church

With the church I pastor, you never know what kind of handshake you'll receive from some of the members. My favorite is when they are going to shake your hand and then pull back slicking their hair saying, "thought you had a friend..."

A dancing foot and a praying knee don't grow on the same leg.

A "holy" type of dance is fine, really, really rare in and around our churches, but your usual country/square dancing or anything close is wrong.

hmmm....does the square dance stimulate the lust of the flesh or something? (looking for reference on that one...maybe the book of Hesitations?)

I remember the days...my church growing up..."Dances are evil!"

    Instead, we had hayrides .

Some guy in the front of the wagon, playing "Do, Lord" on his guitar, and folks in the back...well, not listening...

How can you be a living sacrifice to God, follow Christ, and live a God-honoring life and yet go dancing in some situation that brings nothing more but lust.

When a man is dancing with a woman, he isn't thinking on heavenly things for sure. If it's his wife in the privacy of thier own home, that's fine, but not in a public fashion.

Should we always be asking "Why can't I do this?" Rather I think we should be asking, "Lord, what do you want me to do?"

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

As for hayrides, I praise the Lord my church doesn't have them. I have been to other churches and they did have them, but that was just the tip of their issues.
