Well, my 13 year old was watching some dancing on MTV that could come close...

@Filmproducer, it is when a person get's full of the spirit and dances uncontrollably. Similar to shouting but they are dancing instead.

I wonder what flavor of Baptist the girl was that got pregnant... that wouldnt have anything to do with it, would it....

I know of some girls that came from ultra conservative churches that rebelled.. and instead of the church admiting they may have been part to blame, they blame all the evil in the world.

I dunno, Bitsy, does it actually count as an actual hayride when you can't sit on actual hay like in that third one? I mean, a sheet between my and my hay, really!:p

Friend, your hay rides must have had poor supervision. The ones I went on as a teen (strict IFB) in the 1960's were supervised properly, so that nothing wrong could have gone on--except that guy with the out of tune guitar!:tongue3: So I was actually quite surprised to read your opposition to hay rides! No need to blame the activity--blame the lack of supervision!

Spoudazo you make complete sense. :wavey: I am surprised you aren't getting more support here. Dr. Cloud is a great resource. Your only 22 so you likely "feel" :love2: that age compared to us older ones.

    We can forget easily.

Some folks can dance and still maintain themselves, others can't. But is it worth taking a chance? What if you have a great body therefore cause another to stumble?

My son is 15, and we do not allow him to attend school dances. There are more important matters of course, so we don't place much emphasis on it, but why take such a big chance? Some may see it as big, others may not.
When dancing publicly with my own husband, I can't even keep a clear head. My hubby is the same way. Even a quick glance at someone else while you are enjoying yourself to this extent may be considered lust by god. We don't attend functions where dancing is present(accept square dancing or something without much contact)

Matthew 5:27-29 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, do not commit adultery. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you: for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell"

I know we are talking about different hayrides. My post was in jest. My apologies.

John, I have looked and looked and just can't find the hayride condition to which you are speaking. I've got my official Hayride Handbook right here, so if you'd be so kind as to pull out your copy and show me exactly where it says that one's fanny has to make contact with the hay and not a sheet, I'll be happy to turn to the correct page and read it for myself. Now personally, I agree with you. It seems a fairly lame hayride with a sheet over the hay. AND I have serious concerns about these so-called hayrides happening in the daylight. I'm sure that's against the official Hayride Rules, but I can't find that either. I know I read it somewhere though . .

    :tongue3:

First of all, everyone greets one another with a holy hug pound. Holy dancing must be done in a circle. You put your left foot in, you take your left foot out, you put your left foot in and you shake it all about........

Hilarious, Bitsy, thanks! The Hokie Pokie was the only dance I was ever allowed to do coming up through school. Memories!

Sorry, Bitsy, they don't do hayrides over here, so I left my handbook in the States. And I've looked in my sushi handbook and there is nothing similar--no cultural parallels, alack the day.:tear:

But seriously, folks, the rest of you may agree more than you think with Spoudazo, Kris and the rest of us fundamentalists about dancing.

While I think that it is clear that actual body movements are not sin, because Jesus taught that sin comes from within the heart (we did a whole complicated theological thread on that once), at the same time let's think about some of the things that accompany dancing. In order to do that, I'm going to do a poll on this General Baptist Discussions forum. Join me there, and decide where you would draw the line! :wavey:

    Hmmmmmmm....

    Spoudazo,

I like David Cloud as much as you do. But I think you're taking a life a bit too seriously.

as for the hey rides. I never went on them. I used to watch those crazy people throw hay at one another... never got into it. Anyways, lighten up a little, and learn to laugh... You'll live alot longer.

    Sincerely,

    A Fellow Fundy!

The whole subject of dancing on this thread started over someone complaining that someone was tapping their toe when they were singing..
    That is extreme...

sexual dancing is wrong.... But what about a good waltz, or square dance. I think we have to be precise and not paint with a broad brush.

What this has to do with being a passionate follow of Jesus Christ and faithful disciplemaker I will never know. Sounds like what is really inappropriate is how people elevate the trivial, non-essential things of life to a status that is not worthy of our attention.
