Maybe things are different at George Mason.

They're apparently different in your universe that what reality presents.

Fact: When most income earners make more, the poor will pay a lower percentage of overall taxes.

Fact: Workers make up a higher proportion of poor people under Bush. Link (Which I think is more a result of Clinton's welfare reforms than anything else, but is contributed to by more people working cash jobs to avoid exhorbitant taxes.)

Fact: We are at full employment. Here's a link to a Wikipedia article on NAIRU that explains it fairly well for those of you like Galatian who do not understand that we are at full employment. If you want something more indepth, you can Google "NAIRU" or PM me an I will send you some link.

Fact: The economy is strong and is growing steadily at a good rate. There have only been 3 down quarters in the last 12 years, and 2 of those were under Clinton's watch. So, can't blame Bush for that one, can we? (We can blame the ones in 1993 on Bush Sr, though.)

Fact: To reiterate: When more people make more money because of a booming economy, they will pay more taxes, and the poorest 5% will pay a lower percentage of taxes, even though they work just as much (or even more, as the numbers show).

It's simple economics.

Unless you hate the current president.

But that's not what I said either, nor is it what the Statistical Abstract of the United States shows. It shows that under Clinton, the poor worked more, and more hours. And accordingly, they paid a higher percentage of taxes.

In fact, as our George Mason scholar doesn't know, NAIRU changes over time, so he's trying to compare apples with oranges, even on the bunny trail.

More bunny trail. Fact is, as I said, the poor worked more, and worked more hours under Clinton than Bush, and they paid a bigger share of taxes thereby. In fact, as you learned earlier, unemployment has been higher under Bush than under Clinton. (you can go look if they didn't teach you that stuff at George Mason)

As you know, under Clinton the poor paid a larger share of taxes. It's because more of them were working under Clinton.

It's simple economics.
