Christfollower55, Your remark about being worth more than that reminds me of the remarks I hear from women on another board all the time. They are always complaining about their husbands and planning to divorce them because "he doesn't treat me the way I 'richly deserve' to be treated". I'm always shocked that we, as a people, think so highly of ourselves! Billboards tell us to buy certain cars because 'you deserve it'. Yogurt and other goodies tell us that 'you deserve the best'. The truth is .... we don't deserve anything but HELL.

I was born and raised in the deep south with any number of very racists aunts and uncles. Praise God, I was able to see through their hatred of skin color and my children were spared that hatred.

My great grandfather Conway used to tell us of his 'black babies' he had with the women on the plantation where he was overseer. One fell into the fire and was badly burned. He would laugh and say that one of his babies was half white from the scars of that fire. I know that somewhere there is a group of people who have no idea they are my cousins.... and there is no way I could ever track them down....

i have certain standards and that is what i will follow. i am not going to settle for second best. I want what God want's for me and nothing more and nothing less. I am worth more because he made me.

    PRESTON! Second best!! ?? !!

God is no respecter of persons! You are NOT better than anyone else on this planet. God made us ALL!

You THINK God has promised you a blonde haired, blue eyed, 5'2", 110 lb virgin who can cook, clean and produce perfect babies?? Did God speak this to you?

When I was a teen, I used to see those pictures of 'surfer boys' and think.... um..... the perfect guy! When I met Jim, 5'8", red hair, 170 lbs... I KNEW 'perfect guy for me'. God's ways are not our ways, Preston. God may bring to you a wonderful blind girl or a girl with bad skin. Don't miss out on God's blessings by being blinded by your own 'perceived self worth'.

    Respectfully,
    Diane
(Your neighbor so don't make me come over there and wash your mouth out with soap! LOL)

Boy, you people sure have it in for christfollower55. Seems to me all he's done is state his personal preferences about inter-racial dating/marriage and made no attempt to tell y'all you're off-beat.

Either he said something that I haven't read, or my take on his position is sure different from y'alls! (Please note I'm true SOUTHERN even in typing! [IMG] )

C'mon guys, give him a break! If he was preaching that HE (christfollower55 ) was superior to other races, you may have a reason to get on him like ugly on a frog, but all he's trying to do is tell you where he stands. If you don't fit in his shoes, no problem; just don't try to make him fit in YOUR shoes! Fair enough? [IMG]

Sounds like this is about more than personal preferences to me!

I think what is bothering everyone is not so much that you believe in staying in your race. I do too. However, the statement " I deserve better", "I won't take second best", implies that you think less of other races.
I also cannot explain why I am opposed to interacial relationships, I guess because it was preached to me since I can remeber. Don't know
However, I do not think I am better or even worse, than anyone else. I would not be lowering myself if I dated or married another race, I would just be untrue to myself and what I believe in.

Well, folks, there's just one race, and that's the human race. We have five adopted kids. Three are not the same 'color' as we are. So I guess my whole family wouldn't be acceptable to a number of people here!

When my children marry, as long as the person is 'of the light' -- meaning a Christian -- I don't care what the OUTSIDE looks like!

In the meantime, for the healthiest children, the further away from your own family line you marry, the better. The human race has collected so many mutations which are inherited now that going for someone as unlike you physically as possible is going to be the best thing you can do for your children.

I’m glad you didn’t try to say that the Bible teaches this view.

Children are cruel to anyone who is different. It doesn’t matter if you’re shorter or taller than average, develop earlier or later than average, have red hair, come from a poorer/richer family, live in certain parts of town, have a name that is easy to mock, are smart/not so smart, not good at sports, etc.

The cruelty of children toward one another is usually cover for adults who want to harbor racist ideas. I don’t know your heart so I can’t judge it, but children have a much easier time with “interracial” couples and “mixed” children than adults.

I have three nephews who are mixed white/black and they don’t seem to have trouble with the other children.

Neither the Bible nor our Lord Jesus Christ urges Christians to “stick with their own kind”. If you are hearing that call, it is not of God.

No one is saying he has to date a person of any particular ethnic background. But expressing it in terms of “second best” and such indicates some disturbing views on ethnicity.

Certainly you have the right to your preferences… but I hope you know not to judge people by appearances – that’s called sin.

Then you’re teaching your children unbiblical biases – possibly racism.

Bring “one” home? They’re people, not puppies!

And they might just rebel against your narrow-minded prejudices and marry a person of a differing ethnic background out of spite instead of love…

Please don’t saddle your children with the sins and ungodly attitudes of the past. Please help them to be Christian!

Why should I let a sinful bias judge my life? I try to follow the teachings of Christ instead.

But you would be profoundly, unChristianly wrong. [IMG]

Just a sort of science note here: what people consider 'racial' characteristics are extraordinarily minor genetic differences which originated with separated populations. Small, isolated populations, such as what happened after Babel in particular, will inbreed enough so that certain characteristics become typical of that group.

As far as nationalities are concerned, I'm American mutt. I think most Americans are!

And, in the long run, we are all cousins anyway, not just by virtue of Adam and Eve, but also by virtue of Noah!

I also think someone forgot to tell Hitler and the Aryan supremacy groups (and thinkers) that us blondes do NOT have more fun. Our tissues are weaker, we are more susceptible to skin cancer, and we are also more liable for a host of other problems that our darker-skinned brothers and sisters are almost immune to! I used to put my Taiwanese daughter in the shower with me when she was two, so I could keep an eye on her. Her skin is the most incredible shade of a sort of pinkish-brown! I would look at her, and look at me, and wonder if I had already been dead for two weeks and just didn't know it yet!

I believe at the tower of babel the languages where changed/confused and they all departed with people who spoke likewise.

The teaching of people being cursed and their pigment changing I have heard before from a preacher from TN. They said that Ham was cursed by god and he made him black, forever being the servantude to his brother for his sins. This was a lie. Ham's son canaan was cursed to be a servant and had nothing to do with his color(Gen 9:25) This has been a false teaching that at one time was taught in seminaries around the country. Since their is no biblical reference for your statement you should give pause as to the root of your belief. Yes you do have the right to choose, but not according to a less than/ more than principle.

    In Acts6:1-5
This scripture is often used as the basis for the Deacons in the Church. The reason these men had to be organized was that the people were making racial preferences among the wives and some were neglected. No room should be made in the mind of the beleiver to make differences between people and if this should accur it is the work of the flesh and not the spirit which qwe are to live by.So make your choice to marry or date who you like there is nothing wrong in that, but if you state that the scriptures tell you so you are in error. As a pastor/preacher you should be careful not to divide the body of Christ after the traditions of man.

    God Bless you all [IMG]

Why do you think that God thinks you being with someone of a different race would be "second best"? Before you say "that's jsut how I feel", isn't that why we have a Bible? To make sure our feelings are in line with His teachings?

I am sorry to have to say this but I am stunned and saddened from all the ignorance I'v read on this thread. We are supposed to be Christians. Are we going to separate ourselves when we enter God's Kingdom, too? It seems that people are allowing worldy views to influence them instead of the Holy Spirit. [IMG]

Please folks, remember that when each of us became born again, we had a starting point far from Christ -- and often in different directions far from Christ. He is working on all of us, so that all of us, in the end, will be conformed to His image. The place where some have started is repugnant to others. That is not our business, is it? Isn't it our business to share what we know without judgement like that? I am quite sure that there are those further along in their spiritual maturity than any of us are, and they have every right to look at some of what we say and do, thinking WE are right, and they have to gulp and just trust the Lord with us.

So let us trust each other to the Lord and stop the implied insults and derogatory statements, please. Some of us already know color has nothing to do with anything besides slight -- very slight -- genetic differences which have nothing to do with being human or Christian at all. Some of us are still in the cultural stream of one kind of racism or another. Some who are perhaps more ahead on the racial understanding might be far behind on the evolution/creation understanding, still preferring man's teaching that we evolved from some ape-like ancestor! Each of us has personal areas that the Lord is working very hard on, so let's leave it to Him in terms of being negative toward the people. He knows what He is doing. He knows the heart of each of us. Our job is to support and help educate one another without insults or mocking or rejection.

    Please???

Do I teach my kids to be racist? No I do not.
I teach them not to date outside of their own.

Teaching them not to date outside of their own race IS racist.

Sorry for being blunt, but there's no other way about it.

That's your opinion. I say your wrong. I know myself, you don't.

Just because I do not agree with someone doesn't make them wrong, or a racist. But I don't have to justify myself to anyone here, that's for sure.

I know what I am, and if I was racists, I would hate everyone, and it's not the case.

Racism doesn't involve hating a person because of race, it involves treating someone differently due to their race. Jesus is no respector of persons in regards to race, and neither should we be.

Would it be okay to instruct children that they're not allowed to date a person because of the color of their eyes? Or their hair? Or their height? Or their weight? These are all forms of bigotry. Racism is the worst form of bigotry.

    According to Webster's Dictionary

Racism: belief or doctrine asserting racial differences in character, intellegence, etc. and the superiority of one race over another or others: racist doctrine also, typcally, seeks to maintain the supposed purity of a race or other races.

As Helen has already shown, there is only one race and that skin color is a outcome of very minor genetic differences.
