Is God about to judge America?

Or has he been doing so already?

And to what degree does this reflect our effectiveness / ineffectiveness as Christian witnesses?

...as keepers of the Word of God?

...as carnal believers, participating in / indulging in the vices of the world?

Hasn't the American Supreme Court recently been the final warning blast on God trumpet that the last straw of his patience has been broken?

If (or since) all these things are true... ought we not rather be in mourning and seeking forgiveness and prayerful repentance and forsaking what we have or have not done according to the will of God?

2 Chronicles 7:14 (AV)
14If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

In the Bible how a people indorsed / enforced homosexuality was typically the last straw before catastrophic judgment. And the people who were judged were going about their business about as supinely as we in the Church have been doing for generations now.

This is just my opinion - but to me, we are already under the judgment of God and have been for a while. Today's immoral avalanche spiraling downward and getting bigger and bigger is evidence that God has "delivered us over" to the sin that we have craved.

Romans 1 beginning with verse 18 says that "God's wrath is poured out on those who suppress the truth". We have been suppressing the truth of God for a long time in America. I'd say as early as the 1950's.

What comes next according to Romans 1 is the fact that people know God exists, but they refuse to glorify him or to show gratitude to him. That's us and has been us for a long time. Think of the self-glorification and absolute excess of self-promotion beginning in the 1960's and especially showing itself in the 1980's.

When you self-glorify and self-promote, then the lives of others become not as important as yours. Hence, abortion becomes legal, political corruption rises to the surface, is exposed, and no one cares, and the church seeks to exalt itself thinking popular programs and entertaining the masses is the way to bring people to God.

And this passage says that what comes next is that people are fools and their senseless minds are darkened and their thinking is nonsense.

Next, (jumping down to verse 28), the Bible says in this all too famous passage that everyone knows that God turned them over to this type of worthless thinking.

And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a worthless mind to do what is morally wrong. They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful. Although they know full well God’s just sentence—that those who practice such things deserve to die —they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.
Last, in the middle of this passage back up in verse 26, God delivers them over to sexual immorality - the terrible pinnacle of that being homosexuality.

From verse 26 down through verse 32 - the Bible says that this is all EVIDENCE that God that turned the people over to what they want - sin.

America is already under the judgment of God. It WILL get worse.

We can only pray that God will raise up the remnant of people who still love and obey him.

And we can only pray that WE will be in that remnant. If we were to examine ourselves to this above standard of God's judgment and list of evidence of immorality - where would we stand?

It's frightening.

All of the kingdoms of the world are under the judgment of God and are passing away. One day, all of them will end.

And to what degree does this reflect our effectiveness / ineffectiveness as Christian witnesses?
It has nothing to do with us. The judgment of God came upon all the earth long before the Incarnation.

...as keepers of the Word of God?
We do not keep the Word of God (that is, Jesus). We are kept by Him.

We also do not keep the word of God (that is, scripture). We are transformed, empowered and guided by Christ with the scripture as a guide.

...as carnal believers, participating in / indulging in the vices of the world?
That makes no difference in national judgment. God is not terribly interested in judging political structures since they are essentially irrelevant to the Kingdom and they are passing away on their own.

Hasn't the American Supreme Court recently been the final warning blast on God trumpet that the last straw of his patience has been broken?
I sincerely doubt God is worried about anything the Supreme Court has to say, for or against righteousness.

If (or since) all these things are true... ought we not rather be in mourning and seeking forgiveness and prayerful repentance and forsaking what we have or have not done according to the will of God?

2 Chronicles 7:14 (AV)

The United States is not Israel. We (as a political entity) are not His people.

Humility, prayer and seeking God are always appropriate. It should be a part of our lifestyle and habits. However, we cannot claim the promises given to Israel as promised to the United States. We were not chosen by God for the purpose of being a light to the nations and preparing the way for the Messiah, Jesus. That work is already done.

Many times in I-II Ki. & in I-II Chron. you read of how a certain king Judaic either promoted or didn't promote God's laws/principles He laid out for them in Ex.-Num. & scattered throughout the rest of the OT.

A good topical Bible, or a good Bible handbook, or maybe even a good study Bible can help you find these references to the Mosaic Law.

Previous posts in this thread have already pointed to some NT passages that address whether or not God is "about to judge America."

While He often judged OT Israel, sometimes He cancelled or delayed her rightful judgment. Skeptics tell us that the God of the OT is simply a grumpy old meany just waiting to zap His people.

Sometimes He did judge places like Sodom & Gomorrah (Gen. 18:20-19:25), but even then He waited to see if their natives would repent of their sins. They refused to do so, thus He judged them because they refused to repent when given the opportunity.

The OT records that one reason He left His people in Egypt for 430 yrs. is so that the people in Palestine could repent of their idolatry and all the evil practices that went with it. After 470 yrs., most of them didn't repent, so he had Joshua & his army mete out their deserved judgment. These are just some OT examples of how God often delayed judgment on His created humans.

Technically the US is close to 240 YO. How long will God stay His judgment on our nation that has been the most blessed nation in modern times--the one where more Bible teaching & preaching has taken place in such a short span of time--I don't know.

If current trends continue on as they have, humanly speaking it may come sooner than some of us would hope it will.

Obama is clear evidence that God has already judged America.

This is one, if not the most, conclusive piece of evidence that we are already under His judgement; though not as severe as it will be if we don't start getting our priorities (His priorities!) in order.

America has been languishing under the heavy hand of God's judgment for years. Debt, divorce, abortion, evil legislators, etc.

We will continue to get more of the very things we don't want in judgment from God because we refuse to repent.

We call our evil good, and good evil.

The racism will not be excused by God no matter how much God's people want to deny it.

The disrespect for those He has placed in authority over us will not be excused by God no matter how much God's people want to deny it.

The absence of love for our neighbors will not be excused by God no matter how much God's people want to deny it.

The hypocrisy of taking life while pretending to care about life will not be excused by God no matter how much God's people want to deny it.

The turning into modern day lepers the very ones He has tasked us to go after will not be excused by God no matter how much God's people want to deny it.

We will go to bed tomorrow night wondering what kind of wickedness would allow a country to collect taxes to chop up babies and sell their organs for monetary gain?

The answer will be the very type that allows God's PEOPLE to continue to unabashedly, unashamedly, unabatedly carry out our own brand of wickedness that we refuse to acknowledge as wicked.

Judgment has began with the church. And because The Church has dug its heels in and decided "I don't care what anyone says" while continuing in its own brand of wickedness, then the church here in the United States is gonna keep wondering how people can fix themselves to murder babies and sell their organs, and approve of same-sex marriage, etc.

SO yes. God's judgment is against us. But US doesn't really care as much as US cares about our politics and those things that have no eternal value.

Let me purge the smokescreen from the above post:

As long as black folks aren't shown favoritism,
As long as you criticize Obama,
As long as you oppose abortion,
As long as you oppose sodomy,

in short

As long as you oppose the Democrat political platform, you're doomed.

Read Romans 1. He's already judging America.

Moving to POLITICS since the "theology" of this thread is taking second place to the hot rhetorical of the season.

We are already under Judgement. Look at Romans 1 and you will see America. Scarlett did a good job in pointing that out.

Consider how many of the following of which this country is obviously guilty:

Proverbs 6:16-19
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

56 million unborn babies slaughtered since 1973!

And then there is the following, an accurate description of the increasing decadence in this country starting in the 1960's:

Romans 1:22-32
22. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25. Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29. Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30. Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31. Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Verse 32 is particularly appropriate in this country given the acceptance and celebration {2012 democrat convention} of the slaughter of the unborn and more recently the acceptance and glorification by some of homosexual perversion {Recall the multi colored White House!}
