Is Hunting Ok by GOD???

Now we sometimes hunt for food and thats cool, but what about those who hunt for fun. Is it ok by GOD for us to be able to hunt and kill innocent animals for fun??

Just wondering

I mean Animals are very important creatures and many animals have gone extinct because of so much hunting. What do you think???

With the exception of the extinct category, hunting is essential in this modern world to preserve a balance in the animal kingdom. There is little worse than seeing the remains of a deer that starved to death in the woods with deep snow.

I am not a hunter by any stretch of the imagination, but I am a realist. The meat should not be wasted, but used to feed someone. As civilization expands into the wildlands, the animals habitat, hunting plays a vital role in their ultimate health and wellbeing.

Cheers,

Jim

I don't agree with trophy hunting. If I kill an animal it is either:

-to protect me or mine from it (I shot a rattlesnake a while back because of this); or
-to eat it.

Maybe that's just me. Now, if you eat the deer, then by all means get it mounted if you wish.

I do realize that there sometimes need to be cullings of overpopulated herds. I think efforts should be made, if possible, to utilize the resources (meat, fur, etc.)

But I don't like to see animals killed simply to adorn someone's wall.

I totally get your point on this one!!! I dont agree with that at all!!! The reason I started this thread was because in the other one about " SHOULD CHRISTIANS OWN GUNS" Many said that they thrusted God as their protectors and mostly had guns for Hunting. My question is it biblical to hunt and kill animals just for doing it and not for eating it???

O God, forgive me my ugly soul; I desrve hell; I have killed your beautiful creature!
That was my prayer when I shot 'my first dove'. I held in in my hands while its indescribable beautiful eyes slowly closed. As I sit here, my heart cries out that same prayer. I had no need to kill that animal - it was murder first degree!

Today I eat meat - of a killed animal - and don't feel that way - everyone needs eat.

We humans have messed up God's creation to such an extent we simply must keep on killing or everything must face annihilation,
Hunting is murder; culling and slaughter are of another nature. Yet even these can be most cruel and abominal SINS! The way it is done sometimes only reveals what we would have done with Jesus of Nazareth...

Well, I'm a vegetarian, so maybe I'm not the right person to ask! :tongue3:

But I agree with rbell.

I do not think it's right to kill animals just for sport or pleasure, and I don't see how it's biblical. God made the animals - they are his creatures.

Personally, I think there will be animals in the new heaven/new earth as stated in Is 11.

We do a lot of things we don't have to do today. Many of us go camping, even though we have our own beds and houses. We go hiking, even though there is no business endeavor or friend to visit at the end of the trail. Some of us pickle our own fruits and can our own vegetables, bake our own cakes and pies, knit our own sweaters, et al, even though all these products are readily available for comparatively lower costs at numerous stores (lower costs in money, at least for some, but certainly lower 'cost' considering money, time, and labor).

But doing these things ourselves ties us with the past, when our ancestors had less choice or no choice about doing these things, so we develope our various affinities to develop and maintain the skills we choose and carry them out year after year. Hunting is just another example. With all the money and time spent on guns and ammo, gear, leases, processing, et al, certainly cancels out monetary value of acquiring out own meat in that way (unless we're another Grizzly Adams or Jed Clampett). But it's a skill and hobby for today, based on a necessity of the past.

To answer the question, I have not gone hunting in years now, but hope to this year.

Hunting should be for providing food for the table not home decor and hat racks for the walls. Even though I enjoy fishing I still fish for the meat. Especially a nice 1+ lb bass fried in corn meal in a iron skillet with some fresh garden tomatoes and home made biscuts and fried taters for breakfast.

Nothing wrong with hunting for a trophy buck to eat. As long as you are going to eat the meat then who cares if you are looking for big antlers.

I once asked a lady who was preaching to me about the evils of hunting. I asked her why she was wearing leather shoes and a leather coat. She said because cows are not cute like deer.

I did not have anything to say her honest answer caught me off gaurd.

The OP compared hunting for food & hunting for fun. It did not mention control. Obviously, there are places in the world where hunting for food is essential. That's not the case in developed nations where they have more food than they can consume. I do not know one single person, including myself, who has ever had to hunt for food with any kind of weapon. Grocery stores are everywhere. Hunting for fun or to acquire a trophy is wrong 100% of the time. It is sickening to see grown men in camoflaged uniforms crawling around and whispering, with a high-powered rifle at the ready, bringing down an animal that can't do anything about it, then see them gloat over the dead carcus, then brag about their "kill".

Animals were created for the benefit of man. There's nothing evil with hunting for sport. The Bible is silent on the issue of sport hunting- so I think it's a liberty that Christians can have or refuse to have.

First why does it matter if I kill my meat or if I let somebody else kill my meat. Are you under the ilusion that the meat you buy in the grocery store was not killed?

Second. I can put alot more meat on the table by hunting then buying it in the grocery. Meat is expencive in the store.

If you are going to say it is wrong %100. Then I would like to see scripture to back it up.

I have a bit of trouble here. I think we sometimes misunderstand God's command to "have dominion" over animals...I see that to carry more of a "good stewards" connotation.

My opinion...Killing animals just for fun is not being a good steward of the world God has entrusted to us.

Once again...if the animal is used for meat, I have no difficulties with someone mounting a "trophy animal."

Hey...I don't have to go kill my own meat and bring it home...but my life is enriched when I get to bring home a bass or three, filet them, and fry 'em up. Yum.

hunting for food? good

hunting for trophies? one is laying up treasures on earth instead of heaven.

hunting for control - that is a gray area.

I agree, I hate to be those people standing before God on Judgement Day.

God: "Bob, you killed many animals for trophies"

Bob: "I killed for them for food as well"

God: "All of them?"

Bob: "No Lord"

God: "To hell you go"

Bob: "God have mercy!"

God: "You wnat me to show mercy when you did not?"
