..... for a Christian to play the lottery?

Please explain why or why not you believe it either is or isn't a sin.

Gambling is addictive, I know of plenty of fathers that threw their check across the table on Friday night as his wife and children did without groceries during the week. The sin of covetousness is tied up with gambling. Had you rather be satisfied with what God gives you or risk what you have and play the game of chance.

I don't think it's a sin but it's a stupid waste of money.

"Plenty of people don't win the lottery the first few thousand times they play it."

And when was the last time anyone repented of winning the lottery?

I don't honestly know if gambling is a sin, per se, but as Brother Salzer MTN already stated, it can lead to a broken home. I wouldn't cause a ruckus if I saw one of the members of my church buying a lottery ticket, btw...

Here in WA State it's called a "voluntary tax" because while the winnings go to the ticket buyer the unwon proceeds go to the WA school system.

I've always been under the impression that if one has to ask if something is a sin..., then it is, to that individual.

Regarding these so-called winnings going to the respective school systems..., that's a big lie initiated by government.

Any money that is collected from the lottery merely reduces the School Budged from "appropriated" funds so as to allow for more Pork Money to be spent in other areas.

"They" want you to believe the "additional money" from the lottery goes as in excess to the skool budget. Not so. The School Budget is merely reduced by that amount.

I have also heard it referred to as the "Idiot Tax".

Bad use of money, yes. Unless I win. hahaha.

I rarely gamble like that, though.

I don't know if there's much of a difference between somebody spending a dollar for a lottery ticket or a dollar for a Big Gulp.

That's my thoughts as well. I don't see anything wrong with the act of gambling, but like anything it can be taken too far. It's just another form of entertainment. I personally have never played the lottery. I'd rather have the big gulp.
