Is It A Sin .....

If it is a bad use of money it is bad stewardship and it is sin.

Some would tell the poor that buying unhealthy food is a bad use of money.

Some would tell me that buying that bag of chips was a bad use of money.

Good stewardship is the result of avoiding idolatry when dealing with money. If a person is not idolatrous about the use of the money, I really can't see how buying one lottery ticket or a scratch off could be viewed as sin.

What's the difference between buying a lottery ticket and buying a church raffle ticket where they are giving away money or other items?

Our state lottery is run by the legislature, and the money goes into a general fund, and is used in grants to build parks, and walk-in health clinics, and so on. It's pretty heavily regulated. Some people will abuse it and suffer, most won't. It is not a sin to buy a lottery ticket.

I was refering the posters own words. I did not make the statement she/he did. If you claim something to be wrong, IT IS SIN!

Every so often I review what people on this board say is not sin and visualize what the person wares and does. So now I see a Christian coming down the road with a lottery ticket in one hand, drinking a beer in the other, wearing as little as possible for clothing, singing a Christian rock song, with a back pack full of every translations of the bible he can pack. :wavey:
