Is Obama responsible for lower gas prices?

Some are praising Obama for the recent decline in gas prices ... do you agree, or are lower gas prices reflective of a world-wide glut?

My feelings are, he had nothing to do with the $2.75 price (per gallon) that I paid for gas at Costco today. The truth is, he's probably more surprised with the decline in prices, then all of us.

ROFL ... but if they were going up you and the other Obama haters would surely be blaming him.

Give him as much credit for their going down as you would blame him if they were going up.

Fairness is the American was ... or so we are told.

They are going down in spite of Obama. The drilling on private land has nothing to do with Obama.

Did the liberals give Obama the credit when gas prices went up?

FOFL - think back crabby .... when prices were near $5.00 a gallon, did your BFF open the reserves and release oil to bring prices down to give relief to struggling Americans? Let me think ..... NO! Not once in six-years has you man done a thing to lower or address increased prices. In fact he cheered them on because he wanted high prices to drive the consumer to Hybrids and Electric cars.

I'll wait for your apologies for calling us haters ... but, like waiting for your BFF to lower prices, I won't hold my breath  Peace! :flower:

Actually, liberals and Democrats are in favor of high gas prices because they postulate burning fossil fuels in internal combustion engines causes global warming in their opinion. The Democrats have never been able to discuss the fact that electric cars actually use more energy than gasoline cars because making electricity and transferring it to electric cars is very expensive and inefficient.

In June of 2011 Obama tapped into the strategic petroleum reserve to lower prices on gasoline. Oil prices dropped $4 a barrel after the move.

Just last March Obama sold oil from the strategic petroleum reserve. Admittedly not to lower prices, but as a test with a political message.

Maybe you should keep up on current events instead of posting quizzes about whether or not people keep up on current events.

Obama has nothing to do with it. It is a result of the US producing surplus oil from the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota (primarily), reduced worldwide demand for oil in general, and OPEC's decision to keep the taps flowing despite lower demand (as a way to punish Russia and Iran's oil industry by depressing prices.)

BTW, gas is $2.39 a gallon in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

What is really going on is that the Saudis are trying to crash the US domestic oil production. It is estimated that the Saudis can pump oil for about $5.00 a barrel.

The oil production in the US up because of drilling on private land. The price of oil has been up long enough that it has made it feasible to drill in new areas. Opec is scrambling to figure out what to do to control prices better but they are struggling according to reports. And as has been said Russia is a by product.

So is punishing Iran.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that the sharp fall in global oil prices is the result of "treachery," in an apparent reference to regional rival Saudi Arabia, which opposed production cuts.

Rouhani told a Cabinet meeting Wednesday that the fall in prices is at least partly "politically motivated," the result of a "conspiracy against the interests of the region, the Muslim people and the Muslim world." His comments reflect concerns among Saudi Arabia's rivals that the kingdom is capable of withstanding the revenue losses and is forcing lower oil prices to damage their economies.

"Iran and people of the region will not forget such conspiracies, or in other words, treachery against the interests of the Muslim world," he said.

Thanks for correcting my misunderstandings on this. I was not aware he did this. And I apologize for being so harsh....

This was truly my BAD.

Nothing but the truth.

Give him as much credit for their going down as you would blame him if they were going up.

Fairness is the American way ... or so we are told.

Now CTB, you know that this Obama hate affair some of them have has never been about fairness.

The OP is just looking for a gripe. Gas is going down so folks need to just enjoy it while it lasts no matter who is responsible for it.
