Is PANIC buying a sin?

We have tried to grocery shop, but the shelves look like cornfields after grasshoppers devistated them.

Is this panic buying a sin? And should America impose limits on what people can purchase to make sure there is food stuff for the masses.

I am ashamed of humanity, because of what we saw in our local stores this morning. We had to buy things no one else bought. Our creative minds will find ways to cook meals out of the scraps left standing in stores. Tonight we enjoyed a meal made from unwanted things from three different stores.

Are you having the same problem getting food and basic supplies. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

It likely is a sin.
You are not "loving your neighbor as your self".
I am having a hard time feeding my kids. I didn't go to the store once the panic started. I have found very little food to feed my family. It is all canned food.

I understand people wanting food for their family...I want the same thing. But when one individual buys 100lbs of ground beef and 99 others go with none....how is that showing love for others? Same with toilet paper. You can't find it here. Luckily Walmart is starting to limit 2 per order, but people just go out to their car, put there toilet paper in and come in and buy more. Or have everyone in the household buy 2 packages separately. It is crazy stuff.

.

They are already making plans in regards to this. I assume by "America" you mean American Government. The CDC has already been in contact with SBC disaster relief teams to handle bulk food distribution to the public. Teams are on stand by.

Every time you purchase an item, that is one item that another cannot purchase!
Ergo, IMHO, when you stock up excessively on any product , you are at some point denying a future buyer the ability to get what he needs, just so your fears can(??) be calmed(??)!
So, YES, IMHO panic buying is a sin!!
Just to be clear, buying to stock up for a potential scarcity or emergency of a couple of weeks or so is OK, but the panic we have seen re: perishable items and such as toilet paper, IS IMHO, a sin!!!!:Frown:Frown:Frown

The buying part is not a sin. The panic part is a sin (it is called faithlessness).

During this time I recommend everyone stay indoors and watch The Stand.

I think it is. I found a TP deal on Amazon and got about a month's supply (which I think is a normal buy for TP). Then browsing I found another deal for an even larger amount, but didn't pull the trigger. I just know there's others out there that need it now, so I let it go. Hopefully one of the awful hoarders didn't get it.

Some is panic buying, some is not. My weekly grocery list has more than doubled because the schools are closed, half the restaurants are closed, and I am not eating out at the ones open. On a typical week in normal times, we eat 9 to 10 meals per week at home. We now eat 21
Meals per week at home.
I always prepare. I have about 275 lbs of deer, 100 lbs of catfish, and 25 or so pounds of drum and trout in the freezer.

Double makes sense, I might be doing the same. We're definitely cooking-in more often, though all the drive-thrus are open.

Apparently, someone tried to buy 16 gallons of milk at my local store (according to my checker). They turned them down. Hope they do the same with other commodities.

I would say that it is, and I'm going to be the first to tell the people here that I've been tempted to panic myself a time or two...
But then I remember that, " ...whatsoever is not of faith is sin."

So, if I give in to panic and choose not to trust the Lord for my every need ( Matthew 6:24-34 ), then that is sin.
Looking at the chaos around me in these times and taking my eyes off the Lord and what He does for me everyday, "behind the scenes", is in reality not trusting Him enough to do what He's promised to do for me...
Meet my daily needs.

Oh me of little faith. :(
But, in His grace He teaches me to trust Him daily, and has in the past when I thought everything was falling apart around me.

Therefore, I resolve to put my eyes back on Him and His promises, and do my best to ignore what the news channels are saying about how long things may go on like this.
I've stocked up enough for 2-3 weeks, if I need to remain at home that long.

I trust he will provide if things go further than that.:)
