Is Predjudice and Bigotry a sin?

I was raised in a P & B culture and it saddens me and I am sorry to say I still have family members who are still guilty of this. I spent the early years (mid 50's to the mid 60's) of my life in the Carolinas and the deep south and have witnessed first hand elderly black women get off the side walk and stand in the street until a white passed. I worked in one of the leading dept. stores on the East Coast when a black person could not try on a pair of shoes before they purchased them, Not only did this have an affect on me seeing the wrong of this, but after Christ coming into my life I felt I could not behave or believe in this manner and be a good disciple. I have a Christian Brother who openly states and thinks that he superior to all non whites merely because he is white. Recently this has begun to bother me even to the extent of severing my relationship with him because of his negativity even though he is a friend on mine and a fellow church member. Have any of you brothers experienced any thing of this nature?

I experienced something similar to that back in the 1980's when I was the bus ministry "director" of an IFB church near the Ft. Campbell KY US Army post.

We'd been running some of our buses within some of the military housing areas on post. I'd say that almost half of the dependent children that rode on our buses were black children.

One Sunday evening we held a SS teachers' meeting, and there was one teacher of 8-9 YO boys who rose to his feet and DEMANDED that we stop running our buses on post because all of his SS class were blacks.

Now, most all of our "bus captains" would easily spend 3+ hours each week visiting the families whose children rode on our buses, and they didn't mind what race the children were that came on them [as in "...red and yellow, BLACK and white, they are precious in His sight..."].

(Of course Bro. X spent ZERO hours of visitation at all trying to recruit members for his class.)

I'd say treating others as inferior is unBiblical, at the very least. Scripture says to esteem others better than ourselves, to not favor the rich over the poor (and I think this could easily apply to races, too, considering the context), etc.
Neither do I believe you'd find anything in support of treating one race(s) as superior over others.
It's ludicrous, anyway, from a scientific perspective. We're all human and the different "races" are a result of genetic diversity and adaption to different climates.

I haven't seen much racism where I live. I know of some pastors who are against mixed marriage and believe that the races should ideally be separate and on their own continents, sadly.
As a child one of my friends was black and I invited him to church once. I didn't notice, but my mom said that the pastor's wive gave her an odd look about it.

Several years ago I wanted to purchase a piece of property here in Alabama-----40 acres---near where I live now----I had the cash in hand but the realtor would not sell the property to me because I was white and the sellers were going to sell to only black buyers!!

Now, you figure that one out!!:type::BangHead::saint:

As societal ills go, it's to be preferred to Sodom.

Can't argue for divorce, either, but it's to be preferred to murder.
In this life, I'd agree. Makes no difference which one you've committed once you go before the judgment throne (which obviously isn't the same thing as the Bema Seat). We all know what state those are in who appear before the former.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

A believer can certainly "hate" the ways of another and have pity on them at the same time.

When speaking of prjudice and bigotry from the perspective of which you seem to be speaking, they are indeed sinful.

Scripture tells us that

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Prejudice and bigotry of the sort you mention are about us, and NOT about Christ and others.

It is to not love.

So what makes you think this guy is a Christian if he does not love his brothers? (1John 4:20 1John 5:2) I would remind him that Jesus was not white. And yes it is sin.

You no longer have a'racial' identity when you are born again. Your new 'race' is the family of God.

The same reason I believe you are, You state "The Lord Jesus paid your way".

Color affects all of us.

To most whites, the color black comes across as aggressive. Cops used to wear "blue"..., now-a-days they wear black uniforms. White folks are afraid of black folks often, when there's nothing to fear. Some of the younger blacks today are a different matter but so are some of the younger whites, right along with all other races.

"Black is often used as a symbol of menace or evil, but it is also popular as an indicator of power. It is used to represent treacherous characters such as Dracula and is often associated with witchcraft.

Black is associated with death and mourning in many cultures. It is also associated with unhappiness, sexuality, formality, and sophistication.

In ancient Egypt, black represented life and rebirth.

Black is often used in fashion because of its slimming quality.

Consider how black is used in language: Black Death, blackout, black cat, black list, black market, black tie, black belt

Blackbird..., of course it's NOT ALWAYS black.

To many WHITE PEOPLE, the color black stirs up fear and intimidation.

I wonder if the color white stirs up fear and intimidation in those of other colors?

As for Hitler, he was an idiot who busted hell wide open.
