I agree with you for the most part, but I don't think you would actually read or see ANYTHING fictional and just say that.
Hard to draw the line and can differ among Christians, but there is a line.
My local bookstore is full of sci-fi, we have several favorite authors, but some of it we wouldn't touch.

I've never found any of the Star Wars film to promote New Age philosophy. Let's not give Satan too much credit. That is very dangerous. Giving Satan more recignition than he deserves is one way Satan's power spreads.

Great point! No no God would not want us to be entertained or have fun. Life more abundantly should not include anything that was fun or entertaining.

No waterskiing, basketball, dominoes, no reading (except your trusty KJV) Yep no fun for Christians. That is not what we are about!

    Fantasy/fiction.
    Reality.
    Can you tell the difference?

What about the movies "based "upon history.
    The Patriot - fiction.
    Braveheart - fiction.
    Saving Private Ryan - fiction.
Guess I shouldn't have watched them, either.

I'm curious Aaron. What do you do for recreation that isn't vain, empty or worthless? Does every single thing you do glorify God? Going to the beach or waterpark? Camping? Fishing? Hunting? Car rides? None of this glorifies God either, but I've done all of them.

I'll say it again. Legalism is destroying the Church.

</font>[/QUOTE]As I understand it, 1 Cor 10:7 has to deal with eating a ritual meal before sacrificing to an idol, in this instance a golden calf. It has absolutly nothing to do with waterskiing, basketball, or any form of entertainment.

For that matter, posting on a forum such as this is worthless and vain, and must be a tool of SATAN to keep us from obedience to God.

Or are you actually saying that idle chatter about the KJV, CCM, or the Stanley Cup is more than just idle chatter?

Star Wars is fiction. Even my 3 year old can tell you that, even though she enjoys fiction every day, reading and watching. From Veggie Tales to Star Wars, there are lessons there, there are religious symbols there, but none that will dismantle the Bible training she is already getting from her parents and her church. I grew up playing Star Wars, and between my cousins and I, we could probably tell you more about the imaginary history of the Star Wars universe, even the historical details that are outside of the movies, than we could about U.S. History (except perhaps the Civil War, a favorite subject in our family) But we don't and never have believed in the force, or believed that one day we might actually meet Yoda or Darth Vader.

I read this and immediately called my wife and told her not to make me any supper, and let my father-in-law know I was going to be unable to join him in his idolatrous sin of Golf any longer.

Now I'm headed to the bathroom to vomit up my lunch, I can't believe what a sinful wretch I am

    ;)

    (sorry, forgot the smilie)

My 5yo knows that both Amidala and Bob the Tomato are fictional.

If he thought tomatoes really get up and sing praise songs, I'd be worried!!

"Kirk to Enterprise! Beam me up Scotty!"

(in Scottish fashion) "I can't Captain! With the collapse of the matter/anti-matter transducers--why, I can't even beam up a fly!"

But Scotty always found a way!

Now, even a bad Rocket Scientist can tell you that there can be no such thing as scrambling of ones cells/atoms(whatever) and make them reappear in one piece on some launch pad looking thing!

And Albert Einstein proved that man cannot "WARP" out of here to there--faster than the speed of light!

Spare me with the Light Sabre--it can be no more real than Captain Kirk's Phaser!

Its fiction just like my hero Bugs Bunny. Luke Skywalker, too! But my boy likes Luke just like my girl likes Barbie!

The only thing i can see that would be bad coming out of Star Wars is idolizing the characters or actors. But that can come out of any movie fictional or non-fictional, that can even come out of the bible  (ie. worshiping david cause he was cool enough to stand up to goliath). IF you just look upon Star Wars as just another form of entertainment then you will be fine.

Would this be the same superdave who argued passionately against the fictional Harry Potter?

From my personal experience, I still stay strong to my belief:

STAR WARS IS EVIL. Take it from a teen who was into Star Wars so much, he started Role-playing online. It took me away from Christ. Now all I want is Jesus. Nothing more. Nothing less. ;)

Perhaps the problem was not in Star Wars, but with the person involved in Star Wars.

The greatest danger of Star Wars or any form of entertainment or recreation is that it might become an idol in our lives, standing between us and God. The bible says, "Little children, keep yourselves from idols." Enough said!! ;)

Did Christians stop drinking in modesty because some people can't drink? I think ATC is an exception, and perhaps he should not watch Star Wars. Just as an alcoholic should not drink. It doesn't make alcohol evil.

The timeless lesson Good vs Evil... The timeless story and the never ending one so far!... Every genre has used it... Every medium from books to film has never exhasted its message!... Hey isn't that what the Bible is about?... God vs Evil?... Star Wars is not evil in and of itself just some of the characters!... Brother Glen [IMG]

    Dave,

When Christ said that his food was to do the will of his Father, what did He mean?

Not saying that I agree or disagree with you Aaron, but how does John 4:34 say that we are to do the same thing Christ did? How can you tie it in to other verses that do talk about Christian living. 4:34 in and of itself does not say anything about you or me.

Also- what says that a Christian is not to enjoy the world around him?
