Could he be the personification of antichrist? Rick Warren and many of the Emergents have paved the way for a coming together of Catholics and Protestants and now they have their man. What say you?

You have got to be kidding, I hope. In my life, Kennedy, MLK, Johnson, Nixon, Kissinger, Reagan, Clinton, Obama, Pope John Paul, and many others have been the anti-Christ. Get a life.

Lutheran doctrine states that the office of the Pope is the anti Christ. So whoever happens to be the Pope is the personification of the anti Christ.

I don't buy into that and I'm pretty much in agreement with saturneptune - - there have been so many wrong predictions of identity of the anti Christ that I don't even bother listening to them anymore.

I do think for hundreds of years Satan has had a man or men ready as candidates to step in when needed. As such there is someone selected right now but I doubt it's the Pope.

"Is the Anti-Christ on the scene?"

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. - 1Jo 2:18 NASB

"Anti-Christ" has been around for 2000 years. Will there be an end-times super bad-guy?? Don't know, I have yet to see that proven in scripture. If true, I lean towards the traditional protestant understanding that the office of the papacy is THE anti-Christ. (And even IF it is true, why do we call him "anti-Christ" when scripture NEVER does?)

I kind of agree with Luther in regards to the Pope.

Just a thought, but is there a possibility that that's what satan wants? That way, if/when the "anti-christ" comes upon the scene, we won't suspect he's "the one?"

( Could be totally off the mark here. I'll be the first to admit that I haven't done a lot of study on the subject. )

It's confirmed now: I was just channel surfing and watched MSNBC with Chris Hayes who was praising the pope. See I told you so.

No, there is no singular Anti-Christ figure. Feel free to go on about your day in freedom and grace for not having to think about one. :)

It seems the majority of this world is anti-Christ, and that's pretty scary!

We are told of many anti-Christs, but where does anyone get that there isn't also one specific one later? There seems to be reference to many, but also reference to a specific one in latter times - the false prophet, and that one is very specific and given power by Satan, and rises up in a certain time frame, where multiple anti-Christs are spoken of as having already existing. They seem to be two different concepts, with one being general and one being very specific.

And...I never really thought about it before, but if Jesus talked about the anti-Christ and what to look for, it sure sounds like he expected believers to be here looking, and since the time frame for that seems to be during the tribulation, that kind of knocks out the concept of being pre-trib, huh? One would have to be mid-trib or a post-toastie to believe in a singular, specific anti-Christ. Hrm.

Where did He say what to look for concerning the Antichrist?

Where did He say what to look for concerning the Antichrist?

Start with Matthew 24-25. Search the phrases : 'man of sin', and 'son of perdition' in the NT. Read Dan 11-12, 1Thess. 4-5, 2Thess.2, Job 14, Revelation 4-20.

I'm familiar with those passages as I hold to he pre trib position, but I don't see where we are to look for anyone but Christ.

True to one degree. However the Bible speaks about a man whom will be the Anti-Christ.

If Nero was this man who has already come....people are spending time looking for someone who is not coming in the future.
We should be looking for the Lord and for opportunities to serve Him in His Kingdom here and now...

11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
