Is the Bible Sufficient for Life and Godliness?

Those who claim the 1 Corinthians 12, 1 Corinthians 14 and Ephesians teaching for their doctrine on the gifts of the Spirit ( including prophesy listed in those very chapters )- "believe" this simple rule.
1. GIVE ME THE BIBLE
2. AND THE WORDS IN the Bible
This is key because some man-made-traditions use the rule "anything I can imagine with strong emotional argument... but most certainly NOT attention to actual Bible details".
And as we both would agree - that would be a "bad" thing.

No. Some are legit - -some not.
Take Joseph Smith's "Perl of Great Price" for example or "Doctrines and Covenants" as another example.
1 John 4 says to test those who claim to be prophets to see if the messages they claim as coming from God are in conflict with the Bible.

Perhaps I misunderstood the question. I answered yes because if prophesy is genuine, it must be in complete agreement with scripture.
Making "prophesy" superfluous.

Agreed. But we must test it to see if it is contradicting Bible teaching first .. and I think you were also taking that into account but the brevity of your post left it as an open question which those opposing the 1 Cor 12 teaching on gifts would be jumping on.

Nonsense -- you are arguing that if all the NT writers and prophets were in harmony with scriptures as they had it then -- then we should not even have a NT text.
You can't be serious!!
A Calvinist BETTER claim a gift of prophecy Else God has never declared them elect.
SELF-DECLARED it is sin. Only God can make that Judgement.

Exactly! God is never changing and never changes his mind. That means His word does not either. So the best way to test a prophetic message is to compare it to the scriptures. If there is a single deviation from the written word, I have no choice but to discount it.

I would also venture to ask how any Calvinist preacher ever received their calling? Unless they were specifically mentioned in the Bible, their calling could only have come from an extra-Biblical prophetic message.

ThatBrian uses a lot of emotional arguments.
In my view it is better to stick with the actual Bible.

Maybe they find their name in the Bible and then see it being called into service as a preacher??

Sufficient for what?
Bwt...i agree that God's word is sufficient. There is simply nothing in the Bible which says that it is the only source of God's word.

It is sufficient -- so "read" it instead of merely "talking about" it.
What does THE BIBLE says about the subject at hand when it comes to 1 Cor 12, 1 Cor 14:1
Reading "The actual Bible" we have this
1 Thess 5
19 Do not quench the Spirit; 20 do not despise prophetic utterances.
21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; 22 abstain from every form of evil.

Reading the actual Bible (not just "talking about the Bible") we have this
1 Cor 14:1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.
30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
...39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
Spiritual gifts - in order that you "NOT" Be tossed about by "every wind of doctrine".
Eph 4
11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Give me the Bible "AND" the Words IN the Bible!!
