Is There a Method To Trump's Madness?

I've often posted that Rush Limbaugh is the master at innuendo, suggestion, and leading questions. I'm beginning to think that Trump is better than Rush. Consider.

Like Rush, Trump says a lot of things that are open-ended that allows individual listeners to fill in the blanks like "Make America Great Again". What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means whatever the individual takes it to mean. Maybe it means military might. Maybe it means full employment. Maybe it means kicking out illegal immigrants. Maybe it means low taxes. It means whatever.

Trump's insulting of women. He said Rosie O'Donnell was a fat slob and Carly Fiorina didn't have the face of a President. This looks like a huge political gaffe but from a marketing standpoint he'll probably gain voters. Most men (and many women), would agree that Rosie O'Donnell is less than a beautiful, well behaved woman. Therefore Trump is winning points for "being honest." Most men and many women probably don't think Carly Fiorina is exceptionally pretty and there is a good number of women that just don't take to the idea of women holding power or usurping power over men. So he probably scores points here as well.

Trump's immigration policy. What is it?

Build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.
Change the 14th amendment to ban anchor babies.
Deport 10 million illegals.

Trump is a negotiator and he knows to ask for the world and then scale back and settle on what you really want. He knows he'll never change the 14th amendment and he knows he'll never get the U.S. to deport 10 million people. But perhaps he really only wants the wall. By framing his policy with these other unachieveable elements he can appear to be compromising when he throws his opponents these bones and zeroes in on the wall.

Getting Mexico to pay for the wall? Simple analogy he can use in a debate--If your neighbor's dog continues to come in your yard and poop in your lawn, dig up your garden, and be a general pest, you would tell your neighbor to either put up a fence or you're going to shoot the dog. Pretty soon that fence would be put up and your neighbor will have paid for it. And who knows? Trump could make the fence into some sort of a tourist attraction with proceeds going back to Mexico.

The thing where he kicked the Univision reporter out of his press conference was basically Trump deporting the guy, then inviting him back in.

I'm starting to think some of the so-called mistakes Trump makes are calculated maneuvers.

He knows how to market himself that's for sure.

He's basically created his own persona. Obama had to rely on the mass media to create one for him and Bush had to pretend to be a "regular guy", a conservative and a non interventionist.

They all just give us what we want until they get what they want.

Trump would be no different. He'd go along with what ever the elite wanted same as Reagan, Carter, Clinton, and both Bushies.

JFK was the last president to buck the establishment and look what it got him.

That is not what he said.

You are correct. He doesn't say "Change the 14th amendment to ban anchor babies," he says, "end birthright citizenship."

He plans to do that by filing legal challenges to the interpretation of the 14th amendment, so maybe I should have said, "change the way the 14th amendment is interpreted as it relates to birthright citizenship."

Change the way some incorrectly interpret it.

For the record, the reporter refused to wait his turn and tried to speak without being called upon. Trump, or any other person holding a press conference, would have security escort the disrupter out of the press conference. Trump allowed him back in and then answered his questions. The reporter's daughter is a Hillary Clinton campaign staffer, as you know, so the reporter was biased in favor of Clinton and apparently acting on Clinton's behalf.

Some on the board live to play "devil's advocate" which is what this OP is, advocating for opposition. :tonofbricks:

Rather than complaining about ITL's presumed motive behind his OP, why not argue against the points that he made?

Negotiating 101. Always open talks by asking for more than you're willing to take and offering less than you are willing to pay.

It may be "Negotiating 101" but in my opinion it is schooled dishonesty. The means to the desired results.

Trump can't handle someone who says what they mean, and means what they say.

That is why by the end of the debate, he had lost some of his bluster and footing. Trump was caught in lies and shown to be narcissistic.

Trump is only out for Trump. Listen to what he says and it is always about what is best for Trump, what Trump has done in business, and what Trump has bought of influence and power over others. But cut through the bluster and look at the meaning behind the words and the body language and one cannot escape the undercurrent of the bully narcissist, one who will lie (I never declared bankruptcy - meaning personally but not corporate holdings), who will steal (I contributed and therefore I got access), and who will intimidate (you have your 1%, that is really stupid, she is ...).

Besides does anyone want his current wife as a first lady???

Agree with everything you said, but there is a market for the statements Trump makes. He also speaks in vague generalities without saying anything specific, which causes people to fill in the blanks with their preferred interpretation.

"Making America Great Again."
"I can get along with Putin."
"I'm a deal maker."
"I will make America respected again."

Etc.

Agedman, ITL- What is immoral about offering less or asking more than what your limit is?

I don't think it is immoral. You might get everything you are asking for, and you might only get a little bit. But you might as well ask.
