I agree with it. We should be like the rest of the world in this area and outlaw drug advertising. We should choose our doctor. He should recommend and educate us on the drugs we take.

Totally agree, ‘cept the drug co.’s would then just focus their tactics on the Dr.s.
Even so, I would prefer this approach over the current media blitz. Then the only real problem would be — how much do you trust your Dr...??

Yes. And I'd like doctors and hospitals to be forced to post prices as well. It brings about competition and drives prices down. It helps to prevent discrimination in the charging of services.

Everyone else has to post prices. Why should the medical profession be exempt?

I don't think EVERYONE ELSE has to post prices. I can only think of one other product that the federal government compels to post prices in advertising and that is on new vehicles.

And sticker price on a vehicle is still only a "suggested" retail price. But it does give the consumer a reference for comparison.

Also, interestingly, the enforcement mechanism would be competitors policing each other's ads.

Any drug that costs over $35 for a 30 day supply would be affected by the regulation.

Not directly. But indirectly and through the states this does happen.

The Medical Profession is given a federally protected monopoly. If it gave up its monopoly, I would be more inclined to let bygones be bygones. But they are a monopoly and if I tried to go into business against the monopoly the federal stormtroopers you and I pay for would throw me into prison for the rest of my life.

The Medical Profession is the only private non-government group which doesn't allow you to choose the product, is allowed to charge you even when you specifically refuse treatment, and is allowed to charge you additional money months or more after the fact. And this entire monopoly is protected by federal and state laws.

I really don't care if such people whine and bellyache about having to post their prices.

I wouldnt bother calling a drug company - I'm talking about calling the local drug store.

Likewise - I I want to buy a Ford - I would not call Ford Motor Company in Detroit - I would call my local Ford Dealer.

If it promotes competition between the drug companies I'd think this would have some obvious benefits. It might also be a wake-up call for a society that loves to believe their is an easy way out pill for every neglectfully derived unhealthy condition.

Well if any of you are an old duffer like I am... Dare say the lot of you fit the bill... In the latest publication of the AARP Bulletin... Titled:... The Fight To Lower Prescription Drug Prices on page 20... The Hospitals Making Their Own Medicine... First the drugs will be for hospital patients only and then finally expand to the retail and outpatient markets... And I know this says this only applies to Generic drugs but its a start... Check out the article, you old duffers probably got a copy, laying around somewhere... You younger fellas, we will let you know about it... If any of you other brethren find this article on line...
