Is watching Horror movies wrong???

The Bible answers that:
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Now you answer the question: Do horror movies fit with this? Are they true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable? Are they praiseworthy? Do they encourage you to rejoice in the Lord?

Well, I don't like horror movies that portray the following:
....C'est la vie
- demonic evils
- stupid women who run in high heel shoes
- stupid women in general
- naked women
- stupid, naked women
- women as perpetual victims (because of their stupidity and sometimes their nakedness)
- blood spewing across the screen
- body parts flying everywhere
- stupid teenagers who "save the day"
- teenagers having sex and then getting mutiliated by a monster
- and anything that will give me nightmares

I went to go see the Grudge in theatres when it came out - and I couldn't sleep properly for a month. at night - my mind was not on the Lord at all for that month.
there are three horror type movies I will see - i've seen two of them. the next one comes out 2007 sometime.
1) Hangman's Curse - which really isn't horror - its more thriller - but not - cause its just spiders in the end. but its good.
2) The Visitation - which is a super great movie - not cheesy at all for a christian film - and it makes you think.
3) House - no not the movie of the television show "house" - Frank Peretti and another author - just slipped my mind of the name. this book is amazing and scary - and will see it.
these movies dont have stupid women in general, or who wear high heels, no naked women or men, no body parts, no sex.
its God who saves the day - and there's not just women as victims.
can't wait for "House" to come out!

I think sometimes it's cool when you watch a movie which is so thrilling that you're able to escape the ordinary world for a short while.
What I don't like about horror movies:
When people are lost in the woods, what do they do? They go even deeper into the woods!
When the victim is being chased by the monster, the victim almost always falls and gets hurt and has trouble getting away from the monster.
Movies that are supposed to be extremely frightening and they are actually just plain dumb. I had the misfortune of watching three back to back Child's Play movies with Chucky the evil doll and I could stand only ten minutes of each movie.
Since the monster usually victimizes the leading lady, this leads me to believe that the people who write these stories have issues with women.
Movies that associate children with evil, such as Children of the Corn. Hmmm. Maybe Hollywood knows something that we don't.
Horror flicks can have helpful information, though. For example, if blood or some type of goo comes out of the faucet, leave the area immediately. :thumbsup:

Most likely not, but the passage you quoted itself does not forbid horror movies. There are countless subjects which would not fall under "...pure...admirable...praiseworthy..." like dusting, spraying insecticide and watching the roaches kick and go 6-up, mopping up puke, spreading fertilizer, degutting a chicken....
OK, let me be a little more blunt. You can even see from the other posts that horror movies direct your concentration to the macabre, the shocking, the fearful. They cause you to think about terrorizing others, seeking revenge, and other lovely (sarcastic) things.
This is not the way the Holy Spirit leads. This is not the way the Christian life is run. This is not the way one becomes transformed to the image of our Lord.
If you are watching horror movies, you are not following Christ. There is a choice in your life.

There was a time when some horror movies were horror movies with storylines, like the Christopher Lee Dracula movies, and the last one I saw with a little plot in it was this movie from a novel by Stephen King about a Northern island town under the spell of some demonic being who wanted to have one child he can pass his demoniacal powers to so he can "retire" so to speak, and all these happening while the town was in the grip of a blizzard. Don't come close to Christopher Lee's Dracula so I can't even remember the title of the movie.
But lately horror movies were made out for the blood and gore and to make those watching sick but not necessarily horrorfied (?. Now I know there is such an English word as horrified, but I just used this one for effect, like they do the gore).
So, no, don't waste your money on them. And don't watch them and later on feel guilty about watching them.
Ain't worth it.
Judging from some of the comments maybe we need to differentiate between horror movies (ex. Hitchcock's Pyscho) and teen slasher flicks (ex. Friday the 13th 1-1,000,000)
Can't say as I am a big fan of horror movies they tend to give me nightmares, I mean I had trouble sleeping for a couple of weeks after seeing Titanic.

But, I don't see much difference between Pyscho and Friday the 13th. There was gruesome, bloody, gratuitous "victimization" of helpless naked women in them both. Psycho may be a more "classic" horror film with more professional accolades, and Hitchcock may be one of the most revered directors of his genre, but the underlying message in that film is the same as any other grotesque teen flick.
If you want to go for entertaining Hitchcock, why not go with The Rope or Rear Window?
They are really more of thrillers than horror movies, but I really enjoy M. Night Shamylan's (sp?) movies. Signs can really lead to a good discussion of faith, and the Village...well, I could tell you what could be discussed, but that would give away the ending.
Other genres are good for this too. I found Star Wars 3 to be great for discussion just how satan can work to decieve us ("good or evil is just a point of view").
I find it amazing that God's truth is so powerful, that we can find it crying out from even the most secular, unintended sources.

Has Anyone seen The Exorcist or Emily Rose ???
When I was younger and not in church I watched Exorcist and its pretty intense!!!

Lagardo, I love M. Night Shyamaln's films. I absolutely was enraptured with The Village, even though some of my friends are not huge fans of it.
I sort of half-way figured out plot of the movie when the first "creature" appeared and everyone was scurrying to get underground. I thought to myself, "That's not M.N.S.'s style to be so open and over-the-top with a "creature's" appearance.....hmmm.....and the wheels began to turn in my brain!" Ha!
TaliOrlando, I have not seen The Exorcist and why would I want to? Just the occasional trailer for the movie or use of a clip from the movie in another movie has scared me beyond words. Scared me in a very bad way. I don't like looking at her face or any "clips" from the film that seem to pop up from time to time.
