File this in the "better late than never" drawer.

France's new "conservative" leader is already calling the response "disproportionate".

I expect worldwide outrage at Israel, while ignoring the daily rocket attacks from Hamas. And Hamas declared the "truce" null & void. So Israel has been provoked into self defense, and the rest of the world, including Bush & Rice, who's actions & policies have not helped one bit, need to butt-out.

Good for Israel.

GAZA CITY (AFP) – Israel hammered Hamas targets in Gaza on Saturday, killing at least 205 people in retaliation for ongoing rocket fire in one of the bloodiest days of the decades-long Middle East conflict....

Even the "greatest paper in the world" (lol) is reporting most of the dead are P.A. officials.

Most of those killed were Hamas police officers and security men, including two senior commanders, according to Palestinian officials. But the dead included at least a dozen civilians, including several construction workers and at least two children in school uniforms....

The offensive sparked angry protests throughout the Arab world, and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the Vatican, the U.N. secretary-general and special Mideast envoy Tony Blair all called for an immediate restoration of calm. The Arab League scheduled an emergency meeting Sunday to discuss the situation.

In Washington, White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said, "Hamas' continued rocket attacks into Israel must cease if the violence is to stop. The United States urges Israel to avoid civilian casualties as it targets Hamas in Gaza."
Bolded mine

GO ISRAEL!!!!
I am very glad to see the US laying the blame where it belongs.

Israel left Gaza in 2005 after a 38-year occupation, but the withdrawal did not lead to better relations with Palestinians in the territory as Israeli officials had hoped.
And our present administration believes in "The Roadmap to Peace"!!!

Bovine-excrement!!!! The last quote tells all that's needed to disprove any validity to "land for peace"; whether it's the Israeli OR US government touting the myth!

Yeah, they were kind of elected by the people on a "destroy Israel" platform, and since Hamas operates out of schools & hospitals, there will be no way for Israel to win the PR battle.

And their is absolutely no way to defend themselves from Hamas and avoid civilian casualties at the same time. The condemnation should be of the mixing of military personnel and targets with civilians. That is where the blame lies. And no where else.

One has to be careful about promoting democracy among people who are not ready to exercise it responsibly. Our government should not have pushed for democracy in the Palestinian areas until a two state solution had been put in place.

Well I agree with your first statement, but remember, this had Jimmuh Carter's thumbs-up.

But there can't be a two state solution. One state needs to be victorious over the other. Then there will be peace.

It's been a few days since I read it but someone in the politics forum posted that a democracy will not win a clear cut victory again. If so, then Israel cannot be victorious.

The current situation has been going on for 41.5 years. I won't be surprised if it goes on for at least another 41.5 years just like it is now between Israel and Palestine.

Well I don't think that person knows what they're talking about. Israel is taking it to them pretty hard.

The Hamas goverment is getting exactly what it wanted. It wanted Israel to attack so it could justify more attacks on Israel and to refocus the world on it's grievances. Of course from a military stand point, Hamas will only get defeated. However the anti-Israel media in America, and around the world, will happily give Hamas a public relations victory. The shame is that innocent Palestinians and Israelis will be injured, driven from their homes, or killed. I wish the leaders of Hamas would realize that they are only hurting their own people and that they should learn to live in peace with Israel. As for Israel, its leaders cannot sit back and allow daily terrorist attacks on its citizens. Israel has a moral right to respond.

Yes, but wishful thinking won't make it so. Remember, they have an ideology that WANTS to die as a shahid to guarantee themselves and their family members a place in paradise with 72 virgins. They do not value human life except when they can point fingers at Israel. I am remembering the same ideology that Iran used when fighting Iraq by sending their own little children across mine fields. Radical islam does not value human life. Not even their own.

So very true.

I remember reading a quote from an Israeli woman, IIRC, along the lines of :
"--There will be no peace until the Palestinians start loving their own children more than they hate Israeli children."

World of truth in that statement.:tear::tear:

Egypt is now firing upon escaping Palestinians.

Egyptian border guards have opened fire on Palestinians who breached the border to escape Israel's assault on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
An Egyptian security official said there were at least five breaches along the nine-mile border and hundreds of Palestinian residents were pouring in.
At least 300 Egyptian border guards have been rushed to the area to reseal the border, the official added on condition on anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the press.
A resident of the Gaza Strip side of the border, Fida Kishta, said that Egyptian border guards opened fire to drive back the Palestinians.
Residents have also commandeered a bulldozer to open new breaches.
Palestinians reported several people were wounded by the gunfire.
Israeli aircraft earlier bombed the border area in an apparent attempt to destroy cross border tunnels used to smuggle weapons and contraband into the Gaza Strip.
Dr Abdel Qader Higazi, a representative of the Egyptian Doctor's Syndicate in Rafah said Egyptian authorities closed the border crossing after allowing several trucks of medical supplies into Gaza.

I feel that that Israel has no choice now than to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities. I hope little hitler is next on the list. Israel may feel the need to act before Obama gets into office.

No way. Gasoline prices have just come down to reasonable levels and would double overnight if Israel did something like that. It would likely send the teetering U.S. and world economies from a recession into a depression.

No one has proven yet that Iran is attempting to build nuclear weapons. From the Iraq debacle we have hopefully learned that proof must precede action.

Or we let the countries that face the risk take care of the problem. Iran could help it'self a lot by getting rid of the little Hitler, and I would support them fully in doing so. But just like the P,A., when you elect terrorists lead you, you get what you deserve. When you threaten, every day, to destroy a country and the people in it, I feel ZERO sympathy when they decide they've had enough.

I'm glad David didn't wait for Goliath to make good on his threats.

Then they should take him out. I have no sympathy for them. They let him be the front guy. They deserve what they get. He does the talking for them, and they seem to like it.
