Someone placed a flyer on my front door earlier this week with a bunch of reasons I should vote for Republicans in the Midterm elections.
The flyer did not identify who created and distributed the flyer, but it urged our household to vote, and to vote on Election Day if at possible.
In many places, the votes on Election Day are counter first, then early and mail-in votes. If the majority of Republicans vote on Election Day, then it can appear that Republicans have a lead in early counting before a more representative sample of votes from early votes are counted.
This was former President Trump’s strategy in 2020, designed to make it look like he was “winning” until the rest of the votes were counted. Then, of course, he demanded that the elections representatives stop counting votes (“stop voting”) and made his claim that the election was stolen.
The same rhetoric is happening now, where Republican true believers feel, with complete confidence, that Republicans will take control of the House and possibly the Senate. However, that is far from certain.
Tucker Carlson made the following claim earlier this week about the Arizona election:
“This is a democracy, we have an absolute right to have it proven to us, that the election was fair. If it is fair, Kari Lake’s going to win”
As a Christian, what will be “proof” that your elections were fair?
As a Christian, can you accept the possibility that your preferred candidate may not win in a truly fair election?
As a Christian, are you sufficiently engaged with people who do not share your belief systems and political opinions to realize that not everyone thinks the way you do?
