One could tell where things were headed Thursday when President Trump arrived later than most other presidents and immediately held up two newspapers with headlines including “acquitted.”
The president then shook hands with only half of those at the head table, apparently because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was sitting on the other side of the podium.

Arthur Brooks, former head of the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington-based conservative think tank that researches government, politics, economics and social welfare, and who is also a Harvard University professor and columnist for The Washington Post, spoke of reconciliation and loving one’s enemies.

When it was Trump’s turn to speak, he said: “Arthur, I don’t know if I agree with you,” and then went on a tear proving that he didn’t. He criticized those who claim to pray for him and misuse their faith for political ends, according to him. He implied that “those in this room” (more than 3,000 attended) all support him and those who don’t are not genuine Christians.

Trump clearly missed a grand opportunity. It would have cost him nothing to shake Pelosi’s hand. Perhaps it is time to suspend this annual event, or to hold it without this president attending if he can’t accept the nonpartisan theme that has been its tradition for nearly seven decades.

THE RAPTURE IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!
This I know for certain, because I am somewhat in agreement with FTW!!!:eek:

My suggestion would be for his "spiritual advisers" to have a pow-wow with him and 'splain things clearly before next year. However, I can understand his reaction to the finality (HAH!!) of a 3+ year sniping spree from the dims on purely frivolous, fictitious and flat-out lying charges.
As much as I hated to see his response, I could not guarantee, that were I in his situation, I would have been as "NICE"!:Devilish

Neither Speaker Pelosi nor President Trump got off their high horses and became Christlike.

Anytime politicians are involved, everything and anything becomes political and politics.

What did you expect?

For example why is this guy speaking at a supposed religious event? He is as heavy into politics as any elected official.

Arthur Brooks, former head of the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington-based conservative think tank that researches government, politics, economics and social welfare, and who is also a Harvard University professor and columnist for The Washington Post, spoke of reconciliation and loving one’s enemies.

Dominionism seem to be a guiding philosophy at play here.

Unfortunately, one of his spiritual advisors backed him up.

Jeffress defends Prayer Breakfast reprimands

I read his comments as more of an explanation as to the WHY rather than an endorsement.
Then again, where better to point out the religious hypocrisy, of the ones claiming religion as a basis for their obviously partisan "choices", than an event "SUPPOSEDLY" to bring the factions together!?

FWIW, I'll take a confrontational character that is attempting to improve the country over a submissive sweet talker like J Carter, or most Rs over the past few decades.

Results are far more important than social politeness.:Thumbsup

But, to each his own - as the NH primaries have shown for the Ds!!! :(

Jeffress defends Prayer Breakfast reprimands

"I don't like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong," he declared. "Nor do I like people who say, 'I pray for you,' when they know that that's not so."

"This president, he absolutely hates phoniness; he can smell it a mile away. And the president thinks there's something inherently phony about saying that you're praying for him while you're working 24/7 to destroy him," Jeffress responded.

I agree with him and his “spiritual advisor” completely.

I need to learn to be more kind, preferring others over self and speaking words that build up.

Seriously

Trump is preferring others to himself when he takes up for the America against those who want to destroy it - Romney and Pelosi.

He is also speaking words that build up by defending those oppressed by the leftest media.

I urge you to beware the temptation of pride–the temptation of blithely declaring yourself above it all and label both sides equally at fault, to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of evil, to simply call this politics and thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong and good and evil.

You’re right! It would have cost him nothing.

However, it would have cost America its soul. He refused to shake her hand for the country - not for himself.

Well, JWP - My dad said the exact same thing 50+ years ago. He went on to say that He knew that the Lord would come in his lifetime. Well, Dad went to be with the Lord, almost 20 years ago - Hmmm it appears he was wrong.

In addition - back in those days - Dad said that the only thing that would save this nation is a right wing dictatorship - Hmmm - we have had Carter, Clinton, and Obama - and the good ole USA is still here (Yes, I know that a lot needs to be fixes)

Do I believe the Lord COULD return any day- YES!
Could it be a thousand years before he comes -YES!

AS far as the National Day of Prayer - I say keep it - lets learn from mistakes - and do better in the future.

The progs would like nothing more than to abandon the National Day of Prayer. One more step their way. Prayer should never be disingenuous or praying for negative outcomes. To me, that was Trump’s point. Was it crudely spoken? I don’t care, I get it, & agree with it.

My constant prayer re: this nation after seeing the initial attacks from the left towards Trump, has been:
"Lord, please let all that the left has determined against Trump, come back to rest on their shoulders ten fold!"

Best thing to do would be to have only true Christians in the meeting....
