This week we have seen the passing of singer Aretha Franklin and John McCain, and after watching all the hoopla that has been going on concerning these two and their sendoff, I think it has all become a bit much.

I mean really, taking over a week to put these two people in their graves? All the hoopin' and hollerin' over Aretha as the "Queen of Soul" and the long speeches of "he was the greatest" concerning McCain (by people who just a short time ago hated and despised him) is beyond the pale. Good grief, enough already!

The Jews and the Muslims have it right, if you die on a Monday then you get buried by Tuesday at the latest and it's all over.

What is "too much" has been all of the trump bashing many who are speakers at both funerals have been doing, as that is really disagraceful!

Yes it seems too much. I feel for the family members who must sit through the lengthy speeches, singing, rituals, etc perhaps wishing the whole thing were shorter.

To me it would be like - every day the whole grieving process must start over.

Amen....!

Too much show..... Rev. Jasper did get right preachy though and was happy to see he was not worried abt offending any one.

Never heard of him before and I could care less he was preaching mostly to the black community.

The old boy has got some sand abt him which is missing not only from Baptist pulpits, but the church in general today.

No bouncing ball that I could see

Nobody is forcing you to watch or read about their funerals who are attended by people who you know do not agree with you politically. The remote and mouse are in your hands.

Who remembers the "Bush-bashing" by former presidents at Coretta Scott King's funeral?

I do. It made me so angry. I remember thinking, if this has been my mother, and one single solitary speaker began political talk, I would stand up and tell them that we are here to honor my mother and would they please sit down.

Yes, I really would have done it.

It's all ridiculous.

...I think we're ALL gonna be shocked....

I quite agree.

For those who are genuine Christians - not in name only, or who claim faith, but do not live it - they are going to "marvel", "be amazed", "express wonder"...….so says 2 Thessalonians 1:10.

In other words, we won't ask him all those pesky questions or mock anyone who isn't caught up with him - we will be stunned in a wonderful way and in my opinion, speechless, except for praising his name.

Agreed. And I've avoided most of it

However, making a funeral into a political statement and trying to score political "gotchas" is tacky and gauche.

AOBTW, the USA/Mexico trade deal WILL PAY FOR THE WALL.

And the Trump paradox? - Both sides will benefit. Mexico more than the USA.

I remember complaining long before the Trump administration about the fact that the richest nation in the world EVER is bordered to the south by one of the most impoverished in the world EVER.

No wonder they want to come here.

Gold Dragon has it right -- the remote and the mouse is the best cure for all this. For my own sense of well-being, I've tuned all this out as completely as I can. There is a lot of stuff one doesn't really need to know or even care about. Nothing should surprise us. 1 John 5:19

By the same token, if you don't want to see it here, avoid it and certainly don't keep it going by commenting on it.

Saw John McCain described as "two-time presidential candidate". Didn't agree with it. Discuss.
