Thought that I would leave this here:

Ivanka's biz prospers as politics mixes with business

SHANGHAI (AP) — On April 6, Ivanka Trump's company won provisional approval from the Chinese government for three new trademarks, giving it monopoly rights to sell Ivanka brand jewelry, bags and spa services in the world's second-largest economy. That night, the first daughter and her husband, Jared Kushner, sat next to the president of China and his wife for a steak and Dover sole dinner at Mar-a-Lago.

The scenario underscores how difficult it is for Trump, who has tried to distance herself from the brand that bears her name, to separate business from politics in her new position at the White House.

As the first daughter crafts a political career from her West Wing office, her brand is flourishing, despite boycotts and several stores limiting her merchandise. U.S. imports, almost all of them from China, shot up an estimated 166 percent last year, while sales hit record levels in 2017. The brand, which Trump still owns, says distribution is growing. It has launched new activewear and affordable jewelry lines and is working to expand its global intellectual property footprint. In addition to winning the approvals from China, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC applied for at least nine new trademarks in the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Canada and the U.S. after the election.

Yesterday Donald Trump congratulated Turkey's Erdogan for winning a rigged election giving himself the powers of a despot. I wonder why he would do that?

Oh...

I have a bit of difficulty holding a five-year old Tweet against Ivanka Trump. Things have changed since then. But it still does not look good. It does not take a Mensa member to figure the reason for it.

Wow. Didn't realize that he has property there.

Yes, and on the day that Ivanka had dinner with the Chinese president at Mar-a-Lago she won three trademarks from the Chinese government for Ivanka Trump products.

Being a business owner with trademarks I know this is a coincidence, unless China deliberately held off on issuing them until the presidential visit to the US, so as to cause embarrassment.

There is still so much conflict of interest.

Absolutely. After he was elected Trump was able to double prices for guests staying at Mar-a-Lago. Not only that, but people will want to join or stay there because they might see or meet the president. By being president he is fantastically enhancing the Trump brand name.

....and I say great! Anytime a businessman becomes President, you're going to have this, and it's fine. Ultimately, people decide who that want to do business with. If Trump's fame means more people want to do business with his family, I say let them. As long as it's free enterprise, it's all good.

It is not fine. It is unethical.

Chapter and verse? What is unethical about freedom?

Obama gets more for speeches now then he got before he was President. Unethical? You set a price and if people want to pay, they can.

Trump has been a celebrity since the early 80s, and there's no question his celebrity helped him in business. Many celebrities come out with clothing and perfume lines that wouldn't have been successful if not for their celebrity. It's about freedom. Do you want to stop people from buying products from people they like? To me, it would be unethical to stop them.
