"I've Got A Mansion"

Some years back, I heard a family sing a counter-melody during the chorus to this song; I think it was "He Lives on High."

Does anyone else know whether I've got the right song or not?

Yes, but to the chorus of "He's Coming Soon."

Here is a PDF of the song. http://www.hymntime.com/tch/pdf/h/e/s/Hes%20Coming%20Soon.pdf

Start the chorus of I've Got a Mansion, and on the word "a" the other group starts the He's" of He's Coming Soon.

If you change the last part of He's Coming Soon to, "Someday, He's coming, again" it makes a much better blend. Especially if you add a three part separated vocal chord on the last note.

I have also heard the chorus of
He's Coming Soon changed to the following words:
"He's coming soon, He's coming soon,
Triumphant over sin and the grave.
He's coming soon, He's coming soon,
Someday, He's coming, again."

This can be really effective if I've Got a Mansion is sung with the men singing the first half of the second verse and the ladies singing the second part, then singing the chorus twice with the He's Coming Soon embellishment on the final time.

THANKS! I'll give that one a try.

Don,

I forgot to say that on that last chorus, to bolster the impact, you might consider the men singing in unison I've Got a Mansion while the women sing He's Coming Soon.

Why would anyone want a mansion? Who would be the servants? The LDS has an answer. Some of us will be the servants.

Our former pastor used to sing this counter-melody. Worked fine in a smaller church, and his voice carried well. I have also heard it sung by the choir with the rest of the congregation singing the regular chorus.

My wife says that "He Lives On High" is sung to the tune of a famous Hawaiian song... You could add choreography, leighs and grass skirts.

It's actually spelled "lei"; and I don't look good in a grass skirt.

Well, huh. Finally got serious about this; my daughter's making copies of the sheet music now.

Out of curiosity, I checked both "He's Coming Soon" and "He Lives on High"; they're basically the same tune, but with different lyrics. Both based on the Hawaiian melody "Aloha Oe" (also heard in the movie "Blue Hawaii" with Elvis Presley). They're in different keys, and they have minor differences (in one measure, one uses two eighth notes while the other uses one quarter note). "He's Coming Soon" also has 4 stanzas, while the other has only 3.

Since we're playing an instrumental, we just have to decide which one works better with the primary song.
