Jack Chick tracts

Jack Chick (1924-2016) was a very good artist, and for awhile, made some of the best tracts around for steering people to Jesus. I passed out many copies of his This Was Your Life, IMO, maybe the best tract ever made for showing the way to Jesus & salvation. I hung little envelopes containing them in severap publis restrooms, while my wife put them in womens' public restrooms, & we noticed they didn't stay long, & we didn't see any of them discarded nearby or tossed into the trash. And I wouldn't hesitate to pass them out again today !

Chick made several excellent tracts after that, but in time he came under thrall to the false KJVO myth, which I believe led him to extreme anti-Catholicism. Now, while the RCC is chock-full of man-made false doctrines, much of the material that began appearing, & still does in tracts made by his successors is false as well. The RCC has enough heresy & apostasy that one need not tell lies about them in order to denigrate them!

And the KJVO myth is 100% false. Like the RCC, it's an invention of Satan's. I just hope Chick stayed committed to JESUS despite his publishing false material.

What is YOUR opinion about Chick tracts?

My opinion is that the error gave the genre a bad name and they are often rendered ineffective because of error like King James Onlyism (among other things). Chick Tracts have become the charature many have of Fundamentalism (poor theology, cult mentality, ect.).

But God made a donkey talk. So God can certainly use tracts.

Right, the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy crossed over from attacking the Reformation to being our friends in the blood.

No, that's not what I meant to say. There is more than enough false about the RCC to write a shelf of books about it. And the hierarchy is not the friend of Bible-believing Christians. However, Jack Chick's anti-RCC tracts contained allegations that were fictional.

I do use Chic tracks - the "comic book" format can be very effective.
However, I am very cautious on which ones I use.
We do participatae in the community Trunk or Teat - and put in appropriate Kids chick tracks.

Doesn't mean "This Was Your Life" is wrong to put out.

I read it too as a young unbeliever.

How about all those others who have sinned?

Throw out everything they ever did?

Of course, I'm not talking about us.

I'm referring to the tracts centered around Alberto Rivera.

BINGO! Chick Tracks KNEW that the 'so-called' Father Rivera tracks were lies. He was never ordained a priest in the Catholic Church and knew nothing about Catholic belief. Why would anyone financially support an organization that outright lies? Many Christian bookstores have removed them from their shelves.

I used to believe the rubbish that was published by 'so-called' Catholic Buster's. Then I read a book: 'Born Evangelical, Born Again Catholic', by David Currie.

David Currie was raised in a devout Christian family whose father was a fundamentalist preacher and both parents teachers at Moody Bible Institute. Currie's whole upbringing was immersed in the life of fundamentalist Protestantism - theology professors, seminary presidents and founders of evangelical mission agencies were frequent guests at his family dinner table. Currie received a degree from Trinity International University and studied in the Masters of Divinity program. This book was written as an explanation to his fundamentalist and evangelical friends and family about why he became a Roman Catholic. Currie presents a very lucid, systematic and intelligible account of the reasons for his conversion to the ancient Church that Christ founded. He gives a detailed discussion of the important theological and doctrinal beliefs Catholic and evangelicals hold in common, as well as the key doctrines that separate us, particularly the Eucharist, the Pope, and Mary.

He demolishes your 'objection' to the Catholic faith. Most here would never dream of picking up a book that destroys their evangelical pre-conceived interpretations of scripture. But, I know some that have along the way on this board and are now no longer evangelicals but Catholic Christians. Me included!

If you are referring to me I am not against believing in Jesus Catholics.

It is certain parts of Roman Catholicism, the falsehoods that generations of leaders, specifically, have promoted.

What does Currie directly have to do with Chick and Alberto?

Not into trading Protestant vs Roman sinners.

Are you?

We wouldn't be here for eternity but it might seem like it.

While a student at Mood Bible Institute, Currie used to go into Catholic parking lots while mass was being celebrated and put Chick Tracts on peoples windshields. He believed all the anti-Catholic nonsense he had been fed from growing up in a fundamentalist home. He finally studied closely the ACTUAL Catholic teaching and found out the 'falsehoods' you refer to were rubbish. At one time I hated Catholicism for what I thought it taught, now I 'R' one!

@Walter,
Thank you for bringing David Currie's book to my attention.

If you would, could you please cite the one big issue that you understand changed David Currie's mind.

FYI I am a fundamentalist in my back ground. Became a Christian in 1962.

One issue up font, his book title:
Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic
Would have been better as, Born Again Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic
But his choice of title is telling.

Once I was an unbeliever and hated all religions.

Was there ever a Roman Catholic leader who was bad?

Just one?

Could you allow for many?

The list is long for Protestant leaders who are somewhat, if not completely, bad right now.

You have no false doctrines at all?

How do you know?

Yes. Former cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who was defrocked for solocoting for sex while hearing confessions, & who was a known sexual predator for years.

Just one?
No. Many.

Could you allow for many?
Yes. Let's start withRodrigo Borgia (1431-1503), pope Alexander VI, father of the notorious Cesare Borgia & Lucrecia Borgia, of poisoning infamy. Later came all the "Boyzz R Us" clergy, just to mention a few.

No.
Why?
Because I don't believe ANY doctrine of faith/worship not found in SCRIPTURE. That's the ONLY source of TRUE doctrines of faith/worship. OTOH, the RCC has a bargeload of man-made doctrines, which makes them automatically false. They include everything from mariolatry to celibacy for clergy. (What a JOKE !)

I thought we were not really going to trade bad guys.

Don't you think the RCC has compiled a list of Protestants that have been/are bad?

Protestants and Roman Catholics are all human and that means, guess what?

But, I would agree that there have been some really awful doctrines created, maintained, and propagated at the insistence of the RCC leadership that keep many away from Christ.
