would like to know what he eats

I know this will be oversimplifying, but I know he rails against processed foods (white flower, bread, etc.) and sugar (particularly refined sugar).

He's big into juicing, lots of fruits and veggies, etc. Don't know about his view on meats & healthy fats (olive oil, etc.). No doubt, that's one factor in his health and longetivity.

Like I said...oversimplified, but that's the scoop on him.

He has claimed to have never have eaten a piece of cake in his life. He is a testament to self control.
However, I'm sure genetics play a major role in his longevity (not necessarily his quality of life). My grandfather is 90 and grew up with a mother that only cooked in lard, and he never watched what he ate.

I also wonder if Jack was good to his parents...that would also play into it :D

Like rbell says, he rails against processed food, fast food, sugar, flour and such. He is big on "whole" grains and the proper serving amounts of fruit and vegies "everyday". He eats 5-6 egg whites pretty much everyday for protein and says it is one of the best proteins to eat. I imagine he doesn't eat a lot of meat.

I saw him on FOX news a couple days after his birthday and he is still quite witty and a joker. I also know that he still works out 2 hours everyday, 1 1/2 of weight training and 1/2 hour of swimming or walking. I would love to see what he does in his workout now such as his form, endurance, amount of weight and range of motion.

At 15 he read a book on Grey's Anatomy (sp) and afterward dropped to his knees and prayed that he begin a new lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise.

1994 interview:

LaLanne describes his mother as religious, disciplined. When the Catholic religion wasn't enough - didn't demand enough, wasn't intense enough - Jennie LaLanne became a Seventh-Day Adventist. . . . Jennie LaLanne took her son to a lecture by nutritionist Paul Braggs, who talked about the evils of white sugar, red meat, dairy products. He talked about the miracles of minerals, vitamins and exercise. Jack sat mesmerized. And by that night, at home, he was converted - a sensation he compares to being born again. . . . I said to myself, "God, I can save lives. I can help 'em. I've got to get the truth out to these people."

Interesting, and it appears that there was more than one instance that influenced him and made an impact on his lifestyle.

From wiki:

LaLanne says that as a child he was addicted to sugar and junk food. At age 15, he heard Paul Bragg give a talk on health and nutrition. Bragg's message was very simple but had a powerful influence on LaLanne, who subsequently decided to focus on his diet and exercise habits.[4] He studied Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body and concentrated on bodybuilding and weightlifting. In 1934, LaLanne graduated from Berkeley High School.[5]

He said in a recent interview that at 15 he fell to his knees in prayer after reading that book. He also said in the same interview that, "God helps those who help themselves." so depending on what one reads into that it could be very poor theology or a simple statement that one should not just sit back and wait but should also take action.

Actually, on second thought, I'm mistaken I read about Jack Lalanne falling on his knees after reading that book on Wiki (which was updated shortly after his birthday and apparently has been updated again and no longer has that) this was after hearing his interview and I went from there to look into the book he read (interesting read about Henry Gray BTW) I was thinking Jack had said basically the same thing on the interview. Sorry about that...stupid Wiki!

On the interview Jack started out talking like he was an invalid and I thought "Oh no!" then to find out he was just joking, he later dropped my jaw with his comment about Richard Simmons, but turns out they are friends and it was another joke. Here's the interview:

I have read several accounts of him over the years, and all that touch the subject say he (and his wife) never eats meat, though "occasionally" they eat fish. One such account said "occasionally" means like twice a year. I know he pushes fruits and vegetables (usually the whole thing, including peels and stems), and among bread/grains, whole grains only. No doubt, he is living proof of how diet and exercise add to years. (Un)fortunately, he is a complete fanatic in the subject, the calibur of which very few others will ever be. Consider all this in relation to friends or family we may 'preach' to about fornication, drugs & alcohol, pornography, smoking, decency, gossip, honesty, et al. Lalanne probably sees the vast majority of humanity [especially Americans!] and their habits in a corresponding light, simply refusing to straighten up and not "sin" [refuse to exercise and eat right]. It's an eccentricity, but you can't degrade it for him.

I see what you're saying and often think about this balance. Going into the field of Physical Therapy I hope to minister to the spiritual needs as well as the physical. I believe people that will be coming to me for their physical needs will often be needing help with the spiritual side of things and I look at it as a great opportunity to be a witness to both issues. I want to be walking the walk and talking the talk in both areas.
