I was listening to a message the other day on the radio where this pastor explained that years ago, James Dobson and his organization decided to offer Mother's Day Cards (free of charge including postage) to inmates in a rather large facility.

To their surprise not just a few, but hundreds of inmates responded by taking advantage of their offer.

Due to the success of this effort they decided to do the same thing for Father's Day.

Not one single inmate responded. Not one. After a little question and answer session with some of the inmates their position was that they either didn't know who their father was or else, he was a worthless individual for whom they had no respect.

It's a shame that way too many men use the wrong part of their anatomy to think with.

You are correct. It is a shame so many fathers are such poor examples to their children, such poor examples to the entire world. I have said for years that I feel sorry for women, the only thing left for them are men.

The problem with men is the same problem with the women who sleep with them out of marriage and out of love.

Start a new thread.

Yes, the sin problem is the same for sexual sins in men and women.

But this thread is about men who do not father the children born to them (in marriages or in fornication) and the toll that fatherless boys have to pay many times.

I like this thread just fine and am well aware that the title of the thread is " James Dobson" and not "MEn who do not father the children born to them and the toll that fatherless boys have to pay many times".

Yes the absent fathers are at fault.

But the women are just as at fault for putting their children in that situation. Perhaps if more women looked at the stats and started thinking about what the future of a possible child would look like without a father, they would start to think twice, three and four times about laying down and having unprotected sex with a man to whom they are not married and not in Christ with.

The mothers are just as at fault for choosing the absent dads as the dads are for being absent.

So spread the blame around.

Zaac, I considered your title..., "MEn who do not father the children born to them and the toll that fatherless boys have to pay many times" but it wouldn't fit.

That's Scarlett's title. I think your title is fine as is and allows us to address all parties involved in this epidemic.

I don't know why I try with you Zaac, I really don't.

Do you think that every woman is who a single mother and has an adult male son in prison who does not know his father found herself in that position because she practiced fornication?

There are many women whose husbands jumped ship when babies arrived. Some of these women has husbands who died. Some of these women had husbands who just didn't know how to be a dad - and never learned.

Yes - a woman should be careful with whom she gets involved in a relationship.

That isn't what this thread was about. It was about the consequences male children pay for not having a father around no matter what the circumstances were that made him an absent or unfit father.

It's about the crucial need for a boy to have a great dad or at least a great male role model in their lives.

Scarlett, as I've said to you in the past, you can save the pious "I'm trying to be the picture of Godliness" routine while, like so many others, thinking you're putting me in my place and correcting me because YOU think I'm wrong.

As I've said so many times in the past, don't get short with me and then think I'm gonna believe you're addressing me in an attitude of love.

So if that's what you call trying, I'd rather you didn't. Just continue to be your normal dismissive self and I'll keep answering as I deem appropriate.

Do you think that every woman is who a single mother and has an adult male son in prison who does not know his father found herself in that position because she practiced fornication?

Did I say that?

There are many women whose husbands jumped ship when babies arrived.

Then maybe they should have taken their time and gotten to really know who they were dealing with before marrying him and his jumping ship?

Some of these women has husbands who died.

Would not fall within the parameters of this discussion.

Some of these women had husbands who just didn't know how to be a dad - and never learned.

And the women didn't know this before making a child with him?

Yes - a woman should be careful with whom she gets involved in a relationship.

That isn't what this thread was about.

Why isn't this what the thread is about? Because you say so? The title again is James Dobson. You haven't mentioned James Dobson so please give it a rest.

It was about the consequences male children pay for not having a father around no matter what the circumstances were that made him an absent or unfit father.

That's part of what it is about and what you think it sould solely be about so that you can start your male bashing. I repeat, the women are just as much at fault as are the men whether or not you want that to also be included in the discussion.

It's about the crucial need for a boy to have a great dad or at least a great male role model in their lives.

And part of getting that great dad or at least a great role model in their lives is having a mother who makes good choices with men.

And you'll see nowhere that I have disagreed with that. I simply said that part of that is ALSO the women's fault.

Male bashing? Where was I male bashing?

I saw some male bashing in post #2 from CrabtownBoy in his "feeling sorry" for women because all they have is men. I highly disagree with his opinion.

But you didn't see any male bashing from me and you won't.

This thread may be entitled "James Dobson", but it's about men in prison who didn't have fathers in their lives.

Carry on everybody ....

Yes and part of that is the women in their lives having made poor decisions.

So please carry on everybody.

I find it very hard to believe that not even one prisoner took advantage of a free Fathers Day Card.
1) What prison was Dobson talking about?
2) What was the prison population?
Sure it there were only 10 men - possibly
More likely there were scores or hundreds of prisoners

This statement sounds like the possibility of an urban legend.

BTW, I do not discount entirely what Zaac had to say

Salty, I posted went with what the radio pastor commented on. One would have to contact the Focus on the Family organization and ask 'em if the story is even true.

Unfortunately, the majority of inmates in U.S. prisons and jails could be said to be in prison because they do not know their father, or have no use for him.

As I've made plain on this board a few times, I've been in prison, for forgery and theft related to a disordered gambling addiction. I know the men in prison. This is not surprising. Most there do not know their fathers, or have no use for them because they beat them or were just plain deadbeats. As this study from the National Fatherhood Initiative shows, absentee fathers are disasters for their offspring.
NFI: Father Factshttp://www.fatherhood.org/father-absence-statisticshttp://www.fatherhood.org/father-absence-statistics

Children in father-absent homes are almost four times more likely to be poor ...
Children born to single mothers show higher levels of aggressive behavior than children born to married mothers...
Infant mortality rates are 1.8 times higher for infants of unmarried mothers than for married mothers ...
Even after controlling for income, youths in father-absent households still had significantly higher odds of incarceration than those in mother-father families. Youths who never had a father in the household experienced the highest odds ...
A study of 109 juvenile offenders indicated that family structure significantly predicts delinquency ...
Being raised by a single mother raises the risk of teen pregnancy, marrying with less than a high school degree, and forming a marriage where both partners have less than a high school degree ...
It is believed that in families with a non-biological (social) father figure, there is a higher risk of abuse and neglect to children, despite the social father living in the household or only dating the mother ...
Even after controlling for community context, there is significantly more drug use among children who do not live with their mother and father ...
The National Longitudinal Survey of Youth found that obese children are more likely to live in father-absent homes than are non-obese children ...
Father involvement in schools is associated with the higher likelihood of a student getting mostly A's. This was true for fathers in biological parent families, for stepfathers, and for fathers heading single-parent families.
There is no doubt that the biological father being in the home, being involved in the raising of his children, and having a healthy relationship with the mother are integral to children becoming health adults.

Yep. And most of them hate their fathers, or are completely indifferent to them. Even though they may not be able to put it into words, they believe -- rightly so -- their lack of a relationship with their father is why they are in prison.
