I will let people guess, but I won't let the mods get on me for starting a forbidden topic.

Again, I don't think the Moderators would see stating a book title, such as "The King James Only Controversy," as an infraction on the rule not to discuss the subject.

Perhaps I am wrong.

I have not seen anything that causes me to doubt White's ministry, only been impressed with his work. The irony is that I bought the book thinking it argued...for the other side, lol.

By the way, could you provide a link so I can familiarize myself with exactly what the prohibition refers to?

God bless.

Theologically this is true, but we need to be careful not to inadvertently give the impression that our involvement in evangelism is not important. Even our Lord said to the twelve, "I will make you fishers of men." We know God gets all the glory because He does all the work. What a blessing and privilege to be used by God in the process.

The consecrated cross I’ll bear
Till death shall set me free;
And then go home my crown to wear,
For there’s a crown for me.

Upon the crystal pavement down
At Jesus’ pierced feet,
Joyful I’ll cast my golden crown
And His dear Name repeat.

For those of you who don't know this song it's from "Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone" ... He shall see the travail of his soul and be satisfied... If I get a crown this song tells you where that crown is going!... To the ONLY SOUL WINNER... Brother Glen

You do not win any souls for Christ. God draws his elect to salvation by granting faith and repentance. God is the soul winner! The duty of the evangelist is simply to be obedient and to evangelize and to let God draw souls to salvation.
"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise." The Hebrew parallelism shows that winning souls and producing life in others is the same. So yes, I win souls to Christ, who then saves them.

The book in question is not the King James Only Controversy. No I will not mention the name of the book no matter what anyone says.

Which is why I am a die hard evangelist and own thousands of tracts, am out witnessing regularly, send letters to lost people, and seek to evangelize all that I can.

Don't build your entire theology off one verse translated in the KJV.

Those with infraction problems have to be wary of this catchall rule:

Because I view the use of "souls" here to speak of men in their total state, rather than an immaterial aspect to man's make-up, I see this verse reiterated in the New Testament here:

Jude 22-23

King James Version (KJV)

22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:

23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

"Winning souls" is just a long used term which does not imply salvific effort on our part, we know that it is Christ Who saves, so I don't have a problem with it.

I have talked to people who made statements such as "I witnessed to them and saved them in five minutes," and gave the impression they thought their role was in some sense salvific.

In view is perhaps a "taking hold of," and that is something we seek to do. We know it is the power of the Holy Ghost that speaks to their hearts, but again...we are the instruments in the hands of the Savior, so I don't think we should downplay that aspect either.

God bless.

I had to look at what book this might be and my guess it is Same S3x Controversy? That's the only one that might cause an issue here but I doubt just mentioning the name will cause a problem.

That was my take, too.

I am not certain that the ban on such topics should not be lifted.

Is there not great and growing division in the believers on this topic?

Seems like the BB would benefit by having the topic explored for Scripture applications and heavily monitored by at least two monitors (to snip if needed and keep the discussion on track).

There are a lot of believers who are relying upon feelings rather than Scripture principle on that topic and I do consider that the discussion(s) may benefit teachers and preachers.

Sorry to butt into this attempted argument against soul winning, especially in light that the subject of this thread is supposed be about James White, but I find it an incredibly fallacious and ignorant argument to suggest that John of Japan has built his theology off of one verse and couldn't let this go! Ah, BTW, meet his grandfather:

Rest assured that I would not do that, and have not done so in my published works on the subject.

If you would like to discuss the term "soul-winning" I'd be happy to meet you on a thread, if you will start one. I'd be happy to share quotes from Spurgeon, J. I. Packer and others.
